Dr Lurian Klein PhD, Innovation Developer at Cleanwatts Digital, recently spent one month on secondment at LUT University, Finland as part of the #Coalesce project. During his visit Dr Lurian was primarily stationed at the Cyberphysical Systems Group lab, where he worked closely with Dr Pedro Nardelli and Dr Arun Narayanan and their team, co-leaders of the COALESCE project at LUT. His work also involved liaising with other key departments. He collaborated with researchers from the Lab of Electricity Market and Power Systems (EMPS) – namely with Dr Samuli Honkapuro, Dr Salla Annala, and Dr Behnam Ivatloo, discussing optimisation in Renewable Energy Community (REC) management and smart grid operation strategies. In addition, engaging with the Energy & Society lab under Eeva-Lotta Apajalahti and the Social Sciences Department under Salvatore Ruggiero provided a deeper understanding of the social dimensions of energy systems and offered valuable insights into how social-technical theories apply to the energy transition. This connection supports joint strategies on assessing the social impact of REC initiatives, crucial for COALESCE’s objectives. #smartenergy #renewableenergy #secondment https://lnkd.in/eaQgsGhJ

📜 PUBLICATION: 'Image-based intrusion detection system for GPS spoofing cyberattacks in unmanned aerial vehicles' This new paper partially funded by the #COALESCE project by authors Mohamed S. Korium (LUT University) Mohamed Saber (Cairo University), Ahmed Mahmoud Ahmed (Zagazig University) Arun Narayanan (LUT University) and Pedro H.J. Nardelli (LUT University) was published recently in Ad Hoc Networks. The operations of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are susceptible to cybersecurity risks, mainly because of their firm reliance on the Global Positioning System (GPS) and radio frequency (RF) sensors. This paper proposes an image-based intrusion detection system for detecting GPS spoofing cyberattacks based on a deep learning methodology. #UAV #deeplearning #cyberattacks https://lnkd.in/eHNxsgYT

Dr Nicola Marchetti, Professor in Wireless Communications at Trinity College Dublin (TCD), recently spent one month on secondment in Volue, Espoo, Finland as part of the #COALESCE project. The aim of Dr Nicola’s secondment was to establish a common understanding on what the industry focus and views are in terms of joint communication-energy systems operation, with respect to linking energy systems and markets 🌍 During his time in Finland Dr Nicola discussed collaboration opportunities between TCD and Volue with Development Manager Dr Amir Safdarian elaborating on the technical areas that future secondments of TCD PhD students to Volue could focus on. This included promising topics such as energy efficient techniques in 6G, and an AI-based communication system for smart grid networks. Dr Nicola also visited LUT University in Lappeenranta and worked with Professor of IoT in Energy Systems Pedro Nardelli’s team, mainly on refining the description, data and models, key performance indicators, and requirements for the four COALESCE targeted use cases 🙌 #smartgrid #smartenergy #6G #AI #IoT https://lnkd.in/etCdrpTk
