It was an honor to be a part of this special event and it's always an honor to partner with Chikara Cambodia.
At the end of November, Chikara Cambodia celebrated its 5th anniversary and the grand opening of the Chikara Innovation Centre! 🎉 The first day we celebrated with our puppet show and an environmental workshop at Lolei Primary school. Our partners FACCH, Eco-Soap Bank, Panha Sabay, Makro and Spoons contributed to the success of the day. 💚 A heartfelt thank you to all Chikara students, school partners and their kids, local partners, and guests from the Netherlands for contributing to the festivities. A Celebration of Dedication and Growth in Mondulkiri At Eco-Soap Bank we’re not just about recycling soap and protecting the planet; we’re about empowering women and transforming lives. Every year, we take time to celebrate the incredible women who make it all possible—our team. This year, we embarked on a magical three-day retreat to the breathtaking Mondulkiri province, a journey filled with joy, connection, and gratitude. Surrounded by the beautiful Rock Mountain, waterfalls, and a mesmerizing “sea of trees,” we reconnected with nature and each other. It was a time to reflect on our shared mission: providing lifesaving hygiene to underserved communities while creating meaningful opportunities for women. The highlight of the retreat was our award ceremony, a heartfelt moment to honor those who’ve gone above and beyond. We celebrated our long-service employees, with some reaching an incredible five years of dedication, and applauded our top performers, chosen by their peers for their outstanding contributions. Seeing the pride and camaraderie was a reminder of the strength of our team. At Eco-Soap Bank, we don’t just make soap—we make a difference. Together, we’re building a brighter, cleaner, and more sustainable future, one bar of recycled soap at a time. Here’s to the remarkable women of Eco-Soap Bank and the communities they inspire every day.

Happy #GivingTuesday! Today, we're raising money for our new economic empowerment program. All donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar. Eco-Soap Bank offers stable employment to 175 women from disadvantaged backgrounds. However, economic empowerment is about more than employment alone. Breaking the highly destructive debt spiral requires more targeted efforts to help inform and support Cambodian women. That's why Eco-Soap Bank introduced the FISCAL (Financial Information, Savings, Competence, And Loan) Management Program: a dedicated financial support and debt management program for all women employed at our soap recycling hub in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Day 3 of the GBCSA Convention was a truly powerful day! The morning began with an inspiring session by our very own Jennifer Dean, titled "There's Gold Here. Don't Waste It!" Jennifer shared key insights on responsibly diverting construction waste, featuring the Balwin Properties case study as an impactful example of sustainable waste management. This was followed by the compelling panel discussion "Voices of Tomorrow: Young Leaders Shaping Our Sustainable Future," facilitated by John Vlismas. The panel showcased emerging voices in environmental activism and leadership, including Zoe Prinsloo, Environmental Activist and Founder of Save a Fishie; Otsile Nkadimeng, Youth Leadership and Environmental Sustainability Advocate, and Co-founder of the Sundial Movement; and Sharon Rapetswa, National Director of Eco-Soap Bank. Their insights and passion for sustainability were truly inspiring, underscoring the importance of youth-driven initiatives in building a greener future. The day also featured a powerful talk by Andre de Ruyter on decarbonisation and the Just Energy Transition (JET). He highlighted the challenge that third-world countries face, where regions with the most sunlight have the lowest renewable energy penetration. As he stated, "The more sunshine, the higher the risk," emphasizing the impact of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) tax. De Ruyter stressed that relying on charity from the first world is not a solution, calling for innovative and fair approaches to support these regions in their energy transition. The day wrapped up with a thought-provoking closing speech by GBCSA CEO Lisa Reynolds, leaving us energized and ready to implement these valuable insights as we continue to drive sustainable change collectively as Solid Green Consulting.
