Five countries will receive support for the development of National Action Plans (NAPs) to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from shipping, and four countries will receive support in undertaking feasibility studies for pilot projects to reduce emissions. #PORTproject 💧 Driving the adoption of hydrogen derivatives as maritime fuels and handling goods in Baltic Sea ports - supported by the management and financial expertise of our partner HPC Hamburg Port Consulting GmbH . HPC Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC) has been entrusted with project coordination and financial management for the "H2-Derivatives@BalticSeaPorts" (H2Deri@BSP) project. The ambitious initiative, funded by the Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021-2027 and led by Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM), will start in March 2025 and run until February 2028. 💡 H2Deri@BSP brings together 15 project partners from seven Baltic Sea littoral states, including public port authorities, energy suppliers, and liquid bulk operators. In addition, the project is supported by 23 associated organizations, contributing their diverse expertise to tackling the challenges of green hydrogen derivatives. This broad-based consortium will collaboratively develop solutions to accelerate the use of green hydrogen derivatives, establish initial application cases, and create a scalable roadmap for the green energy transition in ports. “We look forward to supporting our partners in developing solutions for handling and distributing hydrogen derivatives. In the last Monthly meeting of REISFER - INTERREG Central Baltic Project for the project partners, we hosted an external speaker - Prof Aykut Olcer from World Maritime University.  The presentation provided comprehensive overview to the topic of decarbonization of Korean domestic shipping. Similarly to the Baltic Sea region, domestic shipping is vital to South Korea's economy, while also significantly contributing to GHG emissions and air pollution.  As the goal to reach zero-emissions is momentous for both regions, many valuable insights were gained from the presentation 💡 . Here are the most outstanding: ➡️ It is important to take into account the whole life-cycle of the vessel, as well as the emissions; ➡️ Immediate energy efficiency measures are crucial to take, as well as accelerate the adoption of alternative fuels and battery-electric systems, at the same time prioritizing green energy production;  ➡️ Collaboration among stakeholders and governmental incentives is essential for advancing zero-emission shipping initiatives. This was one of the first monthly meetings of many to come, where we plan to delve into the energy efficiency measures, emerging technologies and good practices from other regions.
