"Companies should want to hire people with ADHD," says Kim Dean Holderness, co-author of 'ADHD Is Awesome: A Guide to (Mostly) Thriving With ADHD'. ADHD, a common neurodevelopmental disorder, often manifests through challenges with attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. Yet, it's precisely these attributes that underpin unique strengths in those with the condition. "The ADHD brain is more creative," Holderness explains. Research supports her claim, showing that individuals with ADHD typically excel in divergent thinking—a cognitive style marked by the ability to generate novel ideas and unconventional solutions. And while these studies support the notion that ADHD can present challenges, it may also bring particular cognitive and creative advantages that can be beneficial in many realms, including artistic, technological and entrepreneurial fields.

When it comes to drinking alcohol during menopause, the evidence is there. Major research indicates that consumption during this phase can exacerbate symptoms and escalate the risk of developing serious health conditions like heart disease and osteoporosis. Dr. Taz Bhatia, a board-certified integrative medicine physician and wellness expert, shares insights that might make you reconsider your next glass of rosé. “One of the biggest issues for women in perimenopause and menopause is that the body does slow down,” Dr. Taz explains. “The gut slows down, the liver slows down. You have sort of the sum of our sins, so to speak, living in the body that all our different organs have to process and have to metabolize.” As it can be tough to give up alcohol entirely, Dr. Taz suggests to use it as a “fun food” or a “treat food” for a weekend outing and not to get into a daily habit of drinking. Emphasizing moderation, especially during perimenopause and menopause, is essential to mitigate health risks. What strategies have you or your loved ones found effective in moderating alcohol consumption during significant life changes?

Though the topic of menopause and its arrival in a woman’s life has historically been shrouded in secrecy and shame, a remarkable transformation is underway and being led by a new generation of advocates, medical professionals, attorneys, researchers, and entrepreneurs. Change makers like Mary Claire Haver, MD, Lisa Mosconi, Sharon Malone and Vonda Wright MD, MS. are boldly stepping into a vast void of information and bringing light to the intersectional areas where menopause impacts a woman’s body. They are sparking overdue conversations and encouraging women all over the world to open up about their experiences, ultimately helping others.

"Women outlive menopause," says Dr. Lisa Mosconi, one of the world's leading neuroscientists. The ability for women to live past menopause is considered an evolved trait, and is not common among other animals. In fact, almost all female mammals, besides a handful, live only for relatively short periods after reproduction ceases, recent studies show. Dr. Mosconi explains that women's brains and bodies have adapted this way to ensure their presence on the plant for longer–a trait which she believes is "by design".
