About us
HAMR Industries LLC was founded as means to transition academic, applied, and unproven early stage technology out of the lab and into the hands of our commercial partners and our nation’s warfighters. Our focus lies in developing advanced materials and manufacturing techniques for components functioning in harsh and extreme environments. Applications of interest include materials and components for gas turbine engines, hypersonics, directed energy weapons, advanced munitions, nuclear power, plasma facing components for fusion, 3D printed solid oxide fuel cells, downhole equipment for oil & gas, among others. Though broad, these applications share many similar requirements: incorporation of novel materials, employment of advanced processing and fabrication methods, and consideration of size, weight, and power plus cost (SWaP-C). With backgrounds in material science, engineering science, physics, nanoengineering, and computational materials engineering, experience developing novel manufacturing methods, and routinely functioning in constrained design environments, our team is well poised to address these challenges. Interested in contacting us regarding our products & services, collaborative opportunities, or career opportunities? Please feel free to visit our website to reach out or find out more.

Here are some of our 2024 development and manufacturing stats to go with your morning coffee! Last year, on our WarpSPEE3D machine at Neighborhood 91 we had roughly: 💪 662 Builds and sprays (not parts, builds) ⌛ 298 Hours of spray time 🚀 291kg of build mass 🎆 569kg of material sprayed - We processed 28 different alloys and blends, often multiple in a day, with many (9) of them from our neighbor Metal Powder Works. - The highest efficiency was >98% deposition efficiency, the lowest was ~5%. - We processed in excess of 232 calibration and test builds while analyzing various material systems, powder cuts, and toolpath strategies. - Across all of the different materials, PSDs, process parametrization, and experimentation, we still averaged ~1kg/hr build rate. - Our benchmark materials build from 70-98% efficiency and in many cases can meet their industry standard properties, including cast NAB (ASTM B148) and forged AA6061 (AMS 4127). - We functionally graded a Ni-based alloy to a Ti-based alloy. - We produced a multilayer composite. - We performed several 'build on a build' prints, including dissimilar materials. - In addition to builds, we processed numerous different coatings of dissimilar materials. Outside of cold spray: + Initial tungsten calibrations were performed on the Freemelt AB EB-PBF system at HAMR. + We designed and collaborated on our first powder-DED component, with a big thank you to FormAlloy Technologies, Inc.! + We printed numerous SLA and FDM prints for both fixturing and prototype components.

Calibrations have begun! 💥💥 In case you've missed it, in collaboration with Freemelt-Americas, Inc. (Freemelt AB), a Freemelt ONE EBPBF had recently been installed in our space at Neighborhood 91. In the upcoming weeks, we expect to have our initial trials done with #tungsten! #AdditiveManufacturing #ElectronBeam

Get ready for AM tungsten! We are excited to announce that we have entered a strategic agreement with Freemelt-Americas, Inc. to bring Freemelt AB electron beam powder bed fusion (E-PBF) technology to HAMR and the greater Neighborhood 91. This collaboration will help advance E-PBF technology and will help further bolster the capabilities of the worlds first integrated additive manufacturing campus. See Freemelt's release below! https://lnkd.in/dDsnJZxN HAMR will be assisting on technology and application development, with initial emphasis on #tungsten and #refractories, #refractoryhighentropyalloys, and high purity/conductivity coppers, targeting applications in hypersonics, rockets, munitions, fission and fusion power, thermal management, and electronics.

A nice shout out from the Pennsylvania Treasury, thank you! Pittsburgh was at one time a leader in steel making. Advanced manufacturing will simultaneously bring the city backs to its roots, while also pushing it forward into Industry 4.0 with new opportunities for skilled workers, engineers, supporting staff, and downstream finishing services.
This week’s #MadeInPAMondays is HAMR Industries LLC in Allegheny County. Treasurer Garrity recently visited HAMR in Pittsburgh’s Neighborhood 91 with Senator Devlin Robinson and other leaders to celebrate the launch of the Max Manufacturing Initiative Act. HAMR develops advanced materials and manufacturing techniques for components functioning in harsh and extreme environments in the aerospace, defense, and energy industries. Their applications of interest include materials and components for gas turbine engines, hypersonics, directed energy weapons, advanced munitions, nuclear power, plasma facing components for fusion, 3D printed solid oxide fuel cells, downhole equipment for oil & gas, among others. If you haven't yet, you need to come check out J-DAMMIT at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology! And if you do, there's one more day to get eyes on a cold spray AM as Jake Keiper and Dylan Treaster demo a LightSPEE3D system knocking out shaped charge liners! Come learn about the use case for CSAM and learn where it can be successful. Our friends from Freemelt AB are also showing off EB-PBF parts at our both, so if you are interested in refractories, let us know!

We had the opportunity to welcome Senator Devlin Robinson, our local representative Valerie Gaydos, and other members critical to PA commerce to Neighborhood 91 this week. The event kicked off the passage of the MAX Manufacturing Initiative Act, which is designed to support growth of advanced manufacturing in the state. This will be carried out through investments in infrastructure which facilitate collaborations and technology transfer between Universities and businesses in the state. Initiatives like this are critical to fostering economic growth in Pennsylvania, particularly for small businesses operating in the capital intensive advanced manufacturing arena. Along with our neighbors Cumberland Additive, Inc. , Metal Powder Works, and RJ Lee Group, we look forward to demonstrating the power of advanced manufacturing at Neighborhood 91.
