In collaboration with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), we are prioritizing Maiduguri neighborhoods for mapping based on several key criteria: 1️⃣ Flood extent analysis: we focus on areas that overlap with the flood extent identified by UNOSAT, targeting the worst-affected areas. 2️⃣ Humanitarian cartographers' priority points: areas containing priority points shared by humanitarian cartographers are prioritized to meet urgent needs. 3️⃣ Nigerian Red Cross contribution: We take into account areas highlighted by the Nigerian Red Cross, ensuring that our efforts are aligned with their ongoing operations. 4️⃣ Avoiding duplication: Finally, we prioritize areas that are not already mapped or in the process of being mapped by volunteers, thus optimizing resource allocation. By following these criteria, we ensure that our mapping efforts effectively meet the needs of affected communities. . . . #NigeriaFlooding #AidForNigeria #OpenStreetMap #WNAH #HOT #Communitymapping #TogetherForABrightFuture

The August 2024 floods in Maiduguri, Nigeria, caused extensive damage, affecting over a million people. This disaster was compounded by the failure of the Alau dam on September 10, resulting in massive flooding that affected almost 70% of the city. As a result, over 400,000 residents have been displaced, creating an urgent need for shelter and essential disaster services. You can contribute to remote mapping at your own pace. Every effort counts, even if you're only doing one task. Remote mapping is a simple and effective way to support Maiduguri in this difficult time. . . . #NigeriaFlooding #AidForNigeria #OpenStreetMap #WNAH #HOT #Communitymapping #TogetherForABrightFuture

In August 2024, Maiduguri, Nigeria, was hit by devastating floods, affecting over a million people. The situation worsened on September 10 when the Alau dam burst, causing massive flooding that submerged around 70% of the city. The disaster displaced over 400,000 residents, leaving many families homeless and in need of essential services. The floods also caused extensive damage to infrastructure, rendering many roads inaccessible and exacerbating health risks, including waterborne epidemics and various diseases such as malaria. Relief efforts are complicated by the destruction of livelihoods, particularly in agricultural areas, where thousands of farmers have lost their crops. Please share this information with your friends, colleagues and family. The more people we get involved, the greater our impact. . . . #NigeriaFlooding #AidForNigeria #OpenStreetMap #WNAH #HOT #Communitymapping #TogetherForABrightFuture
