🌱📢 Call for Inputs: Environmental Impact Assessments & Human Rights /Español en otro post / Français disponibles dans un autre post 🌎✍🏽 ALL INVITED to send your inputs for my third report! The right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment requires preventing environmental harm before it happens. Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs) are crucial tools to ensure that projects, policies, and investments respect human rights and protect ecosystems. Despite global recognition, these assessments often lack transparency, participation, and enforcement. They are sometimes treated as formalities or ignored, worsening environmental and human rights issues. 📌 Share your insights! I am preparing a report for the United Nations General Assembly on how EIAs and SEAs can be designed and strengthened towards effective implementation. Seeking input on: ✅ Existing regulations and standards for EIAs and SEAs, including climate change considerations, ecosystem-based approaches, and public participation. ✅ Entities responsible for conducting or reviewing assessments, mechanisms to prevent conflicts of interest, and required expertise. ✅ Standards related to EIAs that are applicable to projects, including the ones financed by international finance institutions, conservation organizations, and other major funders. ✅ Challenges in implementation, including lack of transparency, participation barriers, and reduced assessment requirements. ✅ Best practices integrating human rights, Indigenous and community participation, and public access to findings. 🗓 Deadline: 15 April 2025 📩 Send inputs to: hrc-sr-environment@un.org (Max 5 pages, EN/FR/ES) 🔗 All the details: https://lnkd.in/g32QUZqP Your input will help strengthen global standards and practices to protect people and the planet.
