At Humma, we are grateful to all the people who are genuinely doing good work. Many companies, organizations, and leaders are achieving their goals. We appreciate all we learned as part of the accelerator with RevHubOC - The Orange County Center for Innovation & Social Enterprise—and specifically Juan Carrillo's leadership as a growing voice in the field doing fine work informed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We're also learning from Dante Gonzales, our first fellow with West Los Angeles College Climate Center and the California Youth Leadership Corp. He's helping us develop our explainable AI framework and community engagement strategy. A new virtuous flywheel is in the making. Shout out the #UN #SDG #Goals you are achieving! #grateful #UNSDG #UNSDGs #shoutout

The Beginning of Big Tech's End: Why Humma.AI is the Future Imagine it: the once-mighty titans of Big Tech—those who promised to connect the world—are now stumbling under the weight of their excess. The Wired article "The Beginning of the End of Big Tech" reads less like a prediction and more like a prophecy fulfilled. The centralized, profit-at-all-costs model is giving way to something better, something more human. At Humma.AI, we saw this coming. As Co-Founder and CEO, I’ve spent countless hours thinking about the fundamental flaws in a system where algorithms profit from addiction, data extraction is the norm, and the voices of the marginalized are drowned out or worse. What we’ve built is a direct response to the world Big Tech created—a rejection of its priorities and an embrace of something radically different. Humma.AI isn’t just another tech platform. It’s a privacy-forward, empathy-driven social network, and marketplace powered by the community, not by corporate greed. Instead of extracting value from people, we’re giving them control—control over their data, control over the AI they help train, and, most importantly, a share in the value they create. The article validates our mission. It underscores what we’ve always known: the world is ready for a new kind of tech, one that works with people, not against them. Big Tech's end may be near, but the beginning of something better is already here. The future belongs to platforms that are built on empathy, transparency, and trust. The future belongs to all of us. Let’s build it together. Desmond Patton Vilmarie Rodriguez, LCSW Scott Wiener Melissa C. Potter Catherine Mikkelsen Tiffany Caldas Bryan M. Meredith Whittaker is many things—a former Google walkout organizer and NYU professor, and now the president of Signal and the writer of this very interesting WIRED piece, "The Beginning of the End of Big Tech." It's less known but nonetheless significant that she also happens to be a yoga teacher. When I interviewed her a couple of years ago at a Brooklyn cafe called Hungry Ghost*, at the end of a long, detailed conversation about tech policy and ethics, she offhandedly mentioned something about yoga that I think about often to this day, when I think about democracy. When we train our bodies to slouch, or sit too much, Whittaker explained, our *fascia* -- the connective tissues that hold our bodies together -- begin to stubbornly hold us in ways that aren't healthy. It then takes deep, corrective stretching, over a long term practice, to restructure and retrain the fascia in a more healthy way. It struck me immediately upon hearing that, and does even more so now, that this is how our society would need to respond to rising elements of *facism,* particularly the technocratic aspects of facism. We've been training ourselves to accept and even embrace surveillance for so long, for example, that it would take a kind of deep and painful stretch into any other kind of reality. Maybe Whittaker is in fact helping us to retrain our muscle memory, by working on ideas like this: "One exciting model I’ve been discussing with some of these investors would combine traditional VC incentives (fund that one unicorn > scale > acquisition > get rich) with a commitment to resource tech’s open, nonprofit critical infrastructure with a percent of their fund. Not as investment, but as a contribution to maintaining the bedrock on which a healthy tech ecosystem can exist (and maybe get them and their limited partners a tax break)..." *PS: hungry ghosts, in Buddhist theology, are people who have sinned in previous lives such that they've been condemned to wander a kind of hellish limbo of greed, infinitely craving...sort of like certain kinds of tech leaders with whom Meredith has dealt all too frequently, over the years?

When we talk about standing on the shoulders of giants, this is who we think of, specifically the women leading the ethical discussions. #responsibleai #ethicalai #empatheticai #product #technology #ai
AI Giants Then and Now In the realm of artificial intelligence, where the digital frontier meets the human psyche, it's impossible to ignore the towering figures whose pioneering work has reshaped technology and innovation. Among these luminaries stands Alan Turing, the brilliant mind behind the Turing Test, whose visionary ideas laid the groundwork for modern AI and computational theory. Turing's legacy continues to inspire generations of researchers, pushing the boundaries of machine intelligence. Then there's Marvin Minsky, the trailblazing MIT professor whose contributions to cognitive science and robotics have left an indelible mark on AI. Minsky's bold ideas have paved the way for significant advancements in artificial intelligence. And let's not forget John McCarthy, the visionary Stanford professor who coined the term "artificial intelligence" and spearheaded Lisp programming. McCarthy's work shaped modern AI research, driving technological innovation. These AI giants have not only shaped how we think about artificial intelligence but have also inspired a new generation of researchers and innovators to push the boundaries of what's possible. Leading today are modern-day luminaries like Dr. Joy Buolamwini, founder of The Algorithmic Justice League. Buolamwini's work focuses on shedding light on the social implications of AI, notably racial bias in facial recognition systems. Buolamwini is joined by influential figures like Timnit Gebru, Dr. Fei-Fei Li, KayFirth-Butterfield, Renée Cummings, Kate Crawford, danah boyd, Saishruthi Swaminathan, Deborah Raji, Rachel Thomas, and Olivia Gambelin. Each contributes to the ongoing dialogue on responsible AI development. Together, these modern giants of AI ethics ensure that the future of artificial intelligence is not only technologically advanced but also ethically sound. As we navigate the intersection of AI and society, their leadership illuminates the path toward a more equitable AI-powered future. I'm grateful for their invaluable contributions. https://lnkd.in/ghbA__TX https://lnkd.in/gA5q3NzY https://lnkd.in/gAZYTVuF https://lnkd.in/gbxVKUhd https://lnkd.in/g9RpYcfr https://lnkd.in/gkVpt3Vc https://lnkd.in/gr-XfJHW https://lnkd.in/gpb9uHyT https://lnkd.in/gcXyhkZu https://lnkd.in/gCvvFWQ5 #ai #product #technology #ethicalAI #empatheticAI #storytelling #discussion
