ICA Miami's Young Collectors Board (YCB) comprises the next generation of international art supporters and is dedicated to stewardship of work by emerging artists. During #MiamiArtWeek, the group voted to acquire an exciting new work at New Art Dealers Alliance alongside ICA Miami's curators and the YCB co-chairs. Kim Farkas is a Paris-based artist of Peranakan origin—the Indigenous people of Chinese descent born in Singapore—whose work is characterized by a hybridity of technological and organic forms. In the artist’s richly illuminated wall sculpture "23-28" (2023), the biomorphic and biographical combine to engage with her heritage. Farkas frequently references the ceremonial practice of symbolic offerings to forebears and deities, observed across diasporic Asian communities, and layers both ritualistic materials alongside consumer goods in his work. Interested in making a significant contribution to Miami’s art scene? Join our Young Collectors Board today! https://lnkd.in/eDrD4KP3 ——— Kim Farkas, "23-28," 2023. Jill Mulleady’s monumental new commission, a large-scale billboard reproduction of her 2024 painting “Pesca a la Encandilada (Dazzled Fishing),” has landed in the Miami Design District just in time for #MiamiArtWeek! Visible from the I-95 highway, the original work is displayed in an exhibition at Sant’Andrea de Scaphis — a Roman church that served as a place of worship for port laborers. The scene recalls Mulleady’s fishing activities in Uruguay and instills the rundown temple with scenes of dynamism and secular life. You can see “Pesca a la Encandilada,” presented by ICA Miami in collaboration with the artist and the Miami Design District, at 3704 NE 2nd Ave. https://lnkd.in/eV6XTaJb ——— Photo by Kris Tamburello. #ICAMiami #MiamiMuseum #MiamiArt #JillMulleady #NewCommission #MiamiBillboard #Billboard #ContemporaryArt #ContemporaryArtist #MiamiArtWeek2024
