This is the story of how RUTLAND Products, a manufacturer from Jacksonville, IL, used IMEC services to create a structured approach to continuous improvement. Founded in 1883, Rutland became a leading manufacturer of products for fireplace, chimney, and stove maintenance over the course of their 140+ year history, and currently sell their products in nationwide leading retailers such as Ace Hardware, Amazon, Home Depot, and more. Rutland, recognizing they were a small manufacturer (number of employees) without formal continuous improvement processes, identified an opportunity to provide Six Sigma Green Belt training for key members of their team in order to foster a culture of continuous improvement. The IMEC team got to work, and helped them partner with Laura Lee Rose to develop this training, which utilizes the DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) problem-solving process. Established in 1977, GAMC has evolved into a reliable one-stop destination for intricate electro-mechanical assembly, wiring harnesses, panel assembly, and Class I medical device assembly. I was impressed not only for their technical proficiency but also for its exceptional culture and work environment that ignite a drive for progress. Fourteen years ago, when I first came to Illinois, I had the opportunity to visit Larry Bachner at NiMCO Corporation NiMCO. It was great to return and see the continued innovation firsthand. Illinois has a manufacturing superpower—the ability to make automation, the things that make things. And for over 60 years, NiMCO has been a leader in form-fill-seal equipment for gable-top cartons. Think milk cartons. Today, there’s a resurgence in the use of these cartons in various applications, and with over 2,000 installations in more than 60 countries, Larry and the team at NiMCO are global experts in this technology—right here in Illinois. Please join us in congratulating Mary Hallock, Vice President of Operations, on her IMEC anniversary today! As the VP of Operations, she supports the client engagement team and the team providing services to clients across the entire state of Illinois. During her time at IMEC, Mary has had the opportunity to help grow manufacturers in the Northern Illinois area by creating and maintaining over 300 jobs and has been the head of over 50 separate projects. With specialized skills in strategic planning and business management (among many others), she has helped Illinois companies accrue an aggregate impact of over $27M. Mary says that her favorite days of work are "working with supervisors and managers to help them develop strong leadership skills. They gain confidence and strong processes that help them create good atmospheres for their employees.
