Thank you for an amazing 2024!!! This past year, we hosted dozens of programs and events, enhanced public spaces around the National Parks of Philadelphia, welcomed thousands of visitors from our own backyard and all over the world, and so much more! None of this would be possible without the support from our community of partners, volunteers, donors, and friends at the park! Thank you for your collaboration, your encouragement, your generous donations, and contributing your time and talents to our mission. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy new year!! Can't wait to see what 2025 will bring! #parkpartner #partnership #philanthropy #preservation #nps #nationalpark #nationalparkservice #findyourpark #encuentratuparque #philadelphia

Supporting the Best Park in History!
About us
The Independence Historical Trust, (formerly the Friends of Independence National Historical Park) is a 501(C) 3 non-profit that supports Independence National Historical Park; the national park that protects preserves and interprets Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and the 54 plus historical acres located in the City of Philadelphia. The Trust was created in 1972 and is the first "Friends" group in the National Park Service. Over our long history we have purchased or acquired over 1,000 artifacts for the park’s permanent collections, fundraised for large public spaces in the park and provided educational tours and programs to visitors and locals alike. Our goal has been the same goal since the first day of our existence… To support Independence National Historical Park in any capacity we can and to promote the history, the beauty and the educational values of the park to all people who visit.

Last week's Independence Historical Trust Legacy Award Gala was a tremendous success. The Philadelphia Funder Collaborative for the Semiquincentennial received our annual award for their impact on the Philadelphia region as we prepare for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The foresight demonstrated by the founding members in pooling resources and centralizing the grant application process was nothing short of brilliant. This streamlined and innovative approach has empowered organizations to focus on creating impactful programs and experiences, ensuring that this historic milestone will be celebrated in a meaningful and inclusive way. Their contributions to this collaborative effort reflect a deep dedication to Philadelphia’s legacy and its future. Thank you to the William Penn Foundation, Connelly Foundation, HAMILTON FAMILY CHARITABLE TRUST, The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, NEUBAUER FAMILY FOUNDATION, and Comcast for your well deserved achievement. Thank you to Visit Philadelphia's Angela Val and the City of Philadelphia's 2026 Director, Michael Newmuis, for being panelists. Their conversation with Tracey Matisak and @Chris Levenick captivated the audience and offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the intentionality and coordination that have shaped the planning process for the semiquincentennial.

On Monday, November 18th, The Independence Historical Trust was asked to testify to Philadelphia City Council's Oversight Committee, chaired by Councilman Isaiah Thomas, to discuss the need for the City of Philadelphia to financially support the organizations planning the festivities. Our Director of Development, Jonathan Burton, spoke about the need for City funding for a few key initiatives that will ensure a positive visitor experience. He reminded council members the City of Philadelphia still owns Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Michael Newmuis, the city’s 2026 director, said the Parker administration is preparing a “robust budget proposal for 2026 initiatives.” https://lnkd.in/e9cc-mH3 Philadelphia Visitor Center Corporation Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau FIFA World Cup 26 Philadelphia™ Welcome America Inc.
