Season's Greetings from the Island Innovation team ✨ As 2024 comes to a close, we reflect on a remarkable year for Island Innovation, marked by impactful events and growing recognition for our work supporting island sustainable development. It's been a great year for advancing actionable solutions, from fostering collaboration at the Island Finance Forum and Virtual Island Summit to showcasing financing opportunities for net-zero and blue economy projects at the Global Sustainable Islands Summit in Canada. At the SIDS4 Conference, we organised side events highlighting innovative approaches for SIDS. At COP29 Azerbaijan in Baku, we amplified island voices through the Caribbean Climate Justice Leaders Academy Youth Delegation. Looking ahead, 2025 promises even more. Next May, we’ll co-host the Global Sustainable Islands Summit in St. Kitts & Nevis, announced by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew at the UNGA, to discuss climate resilience, renewable energy, and sustainable finance. Thank you to everyone who made this year extraordinary. Following a short holiday break, we will return to the office on January 6, ready to collaborate on new adventures in 2025. #IslandInnovation #Sustainability #SeasonsGreetings #NewYear #Holiday Government of Prince Edward Island The Government of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis Hon. #SIDS Take on Climate Justice at the ICJ 🌍 Never before have so many countries participated in a single international legal proceeding at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). From December 2–13, 2024, 96 countries presented their arguments in groundbreaking Advisory Opinion proceedings – a historic moment for climate action and international law. In a compelling article, Francesco Sindico, Professor of International Environmental Law at the University of Strathclyde Law School and a valued member of our Academic Council, explores the implications of this case for Small Island Developing States (SIDS). The questions posed to the ICJ have the potential to redefine state obligations to protect the climate system and ensure accountability for harmful actions or omissions. #SIDS have shown incredible leadership, but the stakes are high. Will the ICJ recognise obligations under customary international law, or will the focus remain solely on the Paris Agreement? The decision could reshape how SIDS and vulnerable groups navigate climate justice. Read Professor Sindico’s analysis and join the conversation: https://lnkd.in/ey2ttBiU #ClimateJustice #SIDS #ICJ #InternationalLaw #ParisAgreement #IslandInnovation

Art’s power to deliver strong, intricate messages can skyrocket the impact of climate action 🚀 Under the theme of climate justice, we challenged our youth delegates and team members to submit artwork related to environmental awareness. On that note, we want to thank our talented contributors, two of our COP29 youth delegates from the Caribbean Climate Justice Leaders Academy, Noelle A. Young and Jervon Sands, as well as our very own communications expert, Linda Carti. What's your take on using art as a tool for climate action? Let us know in the comments. #IslandInnovationCCJLA #Artwork #ClimateChange #ClimateJustice #ClimateAction
