Pacific Fusion comes out of stealth having been founded in summer 2023 with a $900mm funding commitment from high profile fund and individual investors. The funding is committed but dispersed in line with the company reaching technical milestones. This is the biggest funding round for a fusion company since Commonwealth Fusion System's $1.8bn megaround right at the top of the market. Ebb has signed a deal with Microsoft to remove up to 350,000 tonnes of CO2 over the next ten years! To measure, report, and verify these removals, we’re pleased to be partnering with Isometric and will utilize their first-of-its-kind MRV protocol for Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE). Here’s why this deal matters: 📈350,000 tonnes is huge. It would represent by far the largest marine CDR deal out there, and one of the larger CDR deals to date. 🌊We know the ocean is one of the most promising pathways for affordable, gigaton carbon removal. Yet another announcement signalling hyperscalers leaning into nuclear as a source of low-carbon, always on electricity. If AI energy needs successfully bring us down the learning curve on nuclear over the next decade, that will be a major win for the energy transition. (Although you might spot that 500MW over 10 years isn't much!)
BREAKING: Kairos Power and Google have signed a Master Plant Development Agreement, creating a path to deploy a U.S. fleet of advanced nuclear power projects totaling 500 MW by 2035. The deal represents the first corporate agreement for multiple deployments of a single advanced reactor design in the United States. The innovative, multi-plant agreement will support technology development by extending Kairos Power’s iterative demonstration strategy through its first commercial deployments. “Our partnership with Google will enable Kairos Power to quickly advance down the learning curve as we drive toward cost and schedule certainty for our commercial product,” said Mike Laufer, Kairos Power CEO and co-founder. “By coming alongside in the development phase, Google is more than just a customer.
