It is important for website designs to guide users to the correct first click. Estimates differ on how much this affects ultimate task success in mature websites (especially when search is an option), but our research using tree tests to assess navigation structures found the average success rate for users who made a correct first click was 80%, while it was only 14% for users who started down a wrong path. #ux #uxresearch #userexperience #userresearch #uxr #treetest

The wording of research questions often implies investigation with qualitative or quantitative methods, but sometimes implies either or both. Our research platform, MUiQ, offers a wide range of question types to meet both qualitative and quantitative research needs. #ux #uxresearch #userexperience #userresearch #uxr

Every few years we work with the UXPA to survey the UX community regarding compensation, skills, and work composition. Here are the highlights and our 2024 Salary Calculator based on combined data from the recent UXPA and User Interviews salary surveys. Our analysis found UX salaries were most influenced by (1) where you live, (2) years of experience, (3) job level, and (4) company size. These four variables accounted for 66% of the variation in salary. Neither age nor gender were significant predictors. #ux #uxr #uxresearch #userexperience #userresearch

The two main types of benchmarking studies are retrospective and task-based. UX benchmark studies fortunately can use a mix of retrospective and task-based studies. We take this approach whenever we can. We start by asking current customers to reflect on their experiences, and then ask a mix of new and existing customers attempt to complete tasks. #ux #uxresearch #userexperience #userresearch #uxr

Incorporating Clutter in the SUPR-Q Measurement Framework In this article, we describe how we used the basic SUPR-Q model to help validate a new standardized questionnaire for the perceived clutter of websites. There is strong evidence for the distracting and detracting effects of clutter on user experience and its consequences. The basic SUPR-Q measurement model is a good framework for the assessment of additional constructs. An expanded version of the SUPR-Q measurement model with measure of perceived website clutter and brand attitude had good fit statistics. Of the three SUPR-Q drivers of Loyalty (Usability, Trust, and Appearance), an overall measure of perceived website clutter had its strongest influence on ratings of the Appearance construct. Content Clutter and Design Clutter accounted for 44% of variation in Overall Clutter, leaving 56% of variation available for explanation by as-yet-undiscovered clutter constructs. #ux #userexperience #uxresearch #uxr #userresearch #suprq

Benchmark when you need to determine where a website or product falls relative to some meaningful comparison. Our research platform, MUiQ, is built for easy comparisons of UX metrics like task success or SUPR-Q across competitor products or versions, so you can see exactly how well you're performing. #ux #userexperience #uxr #userresearch #uxresearch

How Well Does the Net Promoter Score Measure Likelihood to Discourage? In an analysis of two different behavioral intentions, we found likelihood to recommend provides a significant signal about likelihood to discourage, but it isn’t perfect. When we analyzed likelihood to recommend and likelihood to discourage, we found NPS Detractors are much more likely than Promoters to have high ratings of likelihood to discourage. If researchers can only get ratings of one behavioral intention, it should be likelihood to recommend. For a clearer picture of the full range of behavioral intention, there appears to be value in also collecting ratings of likelihood to discourage. #ux #userexperience #uxresearch #uxr #userresearch #nps

There are many common UX metrics. Some were developed for the assessment of websites (e.g., SUPR-Q), some were developed for the assessment of software and hardware apps/prototypes (e.g., SUS), and others can be used to measure both types of user experiences. Our UX research platform, MUiQ, includes question templates for many standardized metrics including the ones listed here. Users can compare results from these questionnaires to our internal benchmarks for additional insights during analysis. #ux #userexperience #uxr #userresearch #uxresearch
