We are saddened by the recent passing of a dear friend and colleague, Dr. William Wessinger. He was a highly regarded orthopedic surgeon who transitioned into hospital administration at Memorial Health. “Dr. Bill” joined our medical staff in 1981 and served as chief of staff from 1998 – 1999. He later was named senior vice president for medical and academic affairs and chief medical officer at Memorial Health. Dr. Wessinger also served our community as Chatham County coroner for eight years. He was a great man and we are thankful for his many contributions to Memorial Health. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

In the Community| February is #HeartMonth. Did you know heart disease is the number one killer disease worldwide? Thank you to Dr. Mazen Khalil, board-certified interventional cardiologist at Memorial Health, for an informative presentation on Heart Disease Prevention to the Salvation Army SAGE Brigade members today. Dr. Khalil states that heart disease can be avoided by eating a healthy diet, exercising –walking is great, if you smoke or vape – stop now, and know your numbers - cholesterol, blood pressure and triglycerides. Small changes add up to a healthier life.

It was a sweet day at our Memorial Health Dwaine & Cynthia Willett Children’s Hospital of Savannah. Our young patients were treated to cookies provided by Mrs. Willett. The Mercer University School of Medicine – Savannah Campus pediatric group delivered stuffed animals and Camp Sunshine provided supplies for the patients to make mailboxes to collect their Valentine’s cards. Even the Coastal Pet Therapy dogs stopped by to deliver puppy kisses or just a hug around the neck. Thank you to these and all the community groups who brought gifts to make this the sweetest day of the year for our patients and their families.

It was monkey madness at our Memorial Health Dwaine and Cynthia Willett Children's Hospital of Savannah. For 18 years, Keith Urban Fan Club members from all over the world have donated stuffed "monkeys and mates" to sick and hospitalized children in celebration of Valentine's Day. A big thank to those fan club members who delivered more than 700 of the stuffed animals to our young patients who went bananas over the fun they brought.
