Celebrate Black History Month with Migrant Leaders In my quest to recruit the 1700 Migrant Leaders mentors, I have had over a thousand meetings with corporate executives in the last 5 years. Every time someone said something interesting about their story and background I made a little note after the meeting. I ended up with almost 400 notes of the most remarkable migrant stories of resilience, drive and aspiration! I eventually felt that these migrant stories deserve to be heard so I went to speak to a couple of publishers. One of them told me you can't publish 400 stories. So I selected 60 of them that illustrate my own life lessons and through their generous permission to publish their story, the book Migrant Magic was born. Migrant Magic is Being Published! I am excited to announce that my book is getting published on 21st May, after years of these thoughts gathering in my head in terms of how I can use my experience to help young migrants succeed in their host country. By reading this book, leaders of organisations will also get a feel for what it takes for underrepresented talent to succeed and how they can bring out the best in their diverse talent teams. I had to address some challenging topics such as racism, discrimination, integration, anger and fear in order to give my whole authentic self to this book and importantly, to really benefit the reader. This book was not part of my life plan. But I guess plans sometimes change. Over the last six years since launching the charity Migrant Leaders, our mentees have given me the gift of their perspective every day. They have given me the privilege of making a difference to their life story. This book is my gift to them and to leaders who wish to understand what underrepresented groups go through to succeed. Why they are the key to their organisations’ success. Why Migrant Magic? People asked me why I called this book Migrant Magic. I say to them that there were a few times when Migrant Leaders supporters asked me how the charity has progressed so solidly and so fast, gaining the support of so many incredible people and organisations. My intuitive answer to them was Migrant Magic! The incredible drive, determination and capabilities that come with having lived with and risen above the challenges that us migrants have experienced.
