When I worked at Concentra, leading an #OccupationalHealth office, I toured a prison in Baltimore. Yes, it made an impression on me. Working in #healthcare is stressful but working in a correction facility... that's off the charts. 📈 On the same day last week that I reviewed the Aon 2024 Benefits Survey of Hospitals, I also read this article in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (JOEM), featuring the stress levels of correctional professionals. 73% of hospitals in Aon's survey currently offer some type of mindfulness training program, app or practice. Someone was connecting the dots. Enter the corrections professionals. In this pilot, facilitators integrated a 30-minute, once-a-week mindfulness program delivered with three to five co-workers (did I hear🎧 peer support?). After 12 weeks of the intervention, almost half were doing daily brief meditations, and most were using breathing to reduce their stress. That's a win!
