🎙 New MKTG TLK episode featuring Samantha Goretski, Director of Marketing at Alpha Industries, Inc. "If you make me feel something, you’ll have me as a consumer for a lifetime." 🔥 In this episode, we sit down with Sam, the marketing powerhouse behind brands like Nike, Vans, New Balance, and now Alpha Industries (bomber jackets, anyone?). If you’re looking to hear from someone who knows about brand, storytelling, and the importance of fostering meaningful connections, this one is for you. From her roots in sneaker culture to leading global marketing initiatives, Sam shares how emotional connections drive lasting brand loyalty and why marketers need to rethink traditional success metrics. ✨ Key Takeaways: — Build loyalty through emotion: Consumers remember how you make them feel, not just what you sell. — Question quick wins: “Do you want short-term ROI or long-term success?” Brand storytelling matters. — Stay curious: Creativity thrives on exposure. Whether it's AI tools or museum visits, keep learning. 🎧 Listen now on our website or Spotify and drop a takeaway or something you learned from Sam in the comments. Special thanks to Wistia for sponsoring Season 3 of MKTG TLK. 🎤

✨ What a fantastic experience speaking at the MKTG WMN Virtual Summit! ✨ Earlier this week, I had the privilege of sharing my thoughts on "Redefining the Relationship Between Sales & Marketing" with an incredible audience. This topic is so close to my heart—bridging the gap between these two powerhouse teams is where real magic happens! Before diving into the highlights, I want to give a special shoutout to Gabrielle Dalvet for being one marketer who I've really loved working with and have always admired! Gabrielle co-created MKTG WMN with the amazing Natalie Cantave, and the platform they’ve built is nothing short of inspiring. 🎤 4 Key takeaways from the session: 1️⃣ Sales & Marketing are Sisters, Not Twins — We each bring unique strengths to the table. Sales connects directly with customers one-on-one. Marketing amplifies the message to reach many. Instead of viewing each other as opposites, we need to embrace our complementary roles. True success comes when we stop operating in silos and work together to align strategies and goals. 2️⃣ Collaboration Starts with Listening (and Empathy!) — Salespeople: Dive into your marketing team’s strategy. Read their content, use their materials, and share feedback from the front lines. Marketers: Walk a mile in sales’ shoes. Understand the challenges of constant rejection and the pressure to hit quotas. Trust and empathy are built when we approach each other with curiosity, transparency, and the assumption of good intentions. 3️⃣ Alignment is the Secret to Shared Wins — When sales struggles, it’s easy to point fingers at marketing—or vice versa. But the truth is, misalignment is the real issue. Sales isn’t just a standalone function. I see Sales as an extension of Marketing. By working together to define shared goals, create unified metrics, and consistently communicate, we elevate the entire business. Marketing isn’t just “nice to have” — it’s essential. Together, we drive the growth of the business. 4️⃣ It’s Time to Move from Transactional to Transformational — The best relationships between sales and marketing don’t just involve process and terminology alignment. They’re about transformation. Integrated teams operate as one, redesigning structures, and sharing rewards. By redefining our relationship, we can create a culture where both teams rise—and win—together. Again, I’m so, so, so, so grateful for the thoughtful questions, engaging discussions, and warm reception from everyone who joined. A huge thank you to the organizers, my fellow speakers, and the entire MKTG WMN team for creating such a meaningful platform. And thank you to our sponsors, Wistia, Goldcast, and Teak & Twine. 💬 Were you at the event? I’d love to hear your thoughts and key takeaways in the comments! #SalesAndMarketing #Marketing #Sales #Speaker

Are you an aspiring CMO? If so, stop scrolling and save these tips from Natalie Cunningham 🌟 on paving your path to the C-Suite ⤵ First, it's important to understand the difference between a VP of Marketing and a CMO. A VP is a senior-level marketing team leader. They are still very much in the weeds and day-to-day of marketing initiaties and operations. A CMO is more holistic and business-oriented. Their purview spans the entire GTM team, and they serve as the glue that aligns the entire org while ensuring marketing initiatives drive business outcomes. Still on board? Great. Now it's time to upskill in the areas that matter ⤵ – 4 Critical Skills to Becoming a CMO 💸 Financial Acumen You have to truly understand business finance, what the numbers mean, and what role marketing plays. For example — why does your board of directors care about cash burn, EBITDA, etc.? And how does this impact the broader corporate strategy of acquisition or IPO, etc.? 📈 Foresight & Forecasting You have to think longer-term and farther ahead than other marketing roles. You’re planning for $80M when your company is at $8M. For example - do you have a remote culture or in-person culture, and how will that impact the company’s growth potential, your ability to hire for critical roles, etc.? 🔥 Force Multiplier Every leader has the potential to impact the people around them. As a CMO, you have the potential to impact the entire culture of performance. 📃 Budget Owner Owning a budget is so much more than managing to a number. If you ask what the budget is, you’ve already lost the battle. Instead, ask what the goals are and the current state is, and build an investment plan from current to future state. Then, ask for what you need. You can ask for more money, change how money is spent, etc. — but you also have to take accountability for results that you project as part of an investment thesis. – Now it’s time to define your path: 〰️ Define your non-negotiables 〰️ Conduct an honest self-assessment 〰️ Pick your model (ex: scale, industry, GTM, funding, etc.) 〰️ Expand your cross-functional exposure 〰️ Engage your community 〰️ Practice your balance of humility and confidence It doesn’t always happen this way, but many companies prefer leadership that has experience in a specific area — industry, GTM motion, funding model, etc. Find an area that you’re particularly good at or passionate about and build expertise in that specific domain. How do you do that?? ⤵ – Build your niche: 〰️ Focus on the “market” in marketing → Build your personal brand to resonate with your target industry rather than appealing only to marketers 〰️ Develop a clear POV → Share your expertise through published content, speaking at events, etc. 〰️ Cultivate influential relationships → Build genuine relationships with peers and influencers in the space – Some GEMS from this year's MKTG WMN summit 🔥 Thank you Natalie Cantave and Gabrielle Dalvet for organizing!

I had a blast at the MKTG WMN Summit yesterday! There was a full roster of talented speakers & a genuine feeling of women supporting each other and lifting each other up. One of my favorite takeaways came from Samantha Rideout regarding a messaging shift in 2025 - say it like you’d say it at a barbecue. Enough with buzzwords and jargon, the plain and simple approach to messaging is back. Many thanks to Natalie Cantave and Gabrielle Dalvet for putting together such an inspiring afternoon!
