  • Jake Papazekos (B.S. polymer and color chemistry '23) is already shaping the future of the textile industry! As a part of the innovative team at Simplifyber, he’s contributing to revolutionary advancements in sustainable textile manufacturing. Simplifyber’s work focuses on reducing waste by creating clothing and footwear from a liquid cellulose solution – eliminating traditional fabric production and assembly processes. Jake’s research experience with cellulose products has been instrumental in pushing these cutting-edge technologies forward. We’re so proud to see Wolfpack alumni making such a significant impact in sustainability and innovation. 🌱🐺 Check out his full journey and Simplifyber’s groundbreaking work by clicking the link below! http://ncst.at/bXzX50UxshT

  • #NCStateWilson Ph.D. student Melissa Armistead stands out among the rest as one of four researchers worldwide to receive a prestigious scholarship award from the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM). A huge congrats to Melissa, a fiber and polymer science Ph.D. student, for her $10,000 scholarship from ASTM. Her research as part of the Textile Protection and Comfort Center (TPACC) began with COVID-19 and the public’s need for trustworthy respiratory protection. Now, she is working to give wildland firefighters that same insurance by standardizing the way their respirators are tested. • Cheer on Emiel DenHartog, Ph.D., as the newly appointed head of the Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Sciences (TECS) at #NCStateWilson. Prior to DenHartog’s recent milestone achievement, he earned his Ph.D. in biophysics and began working for a contract research agency for 15 years before coming across the Wilson College. His research background allowed him to land a research and teaching opportunity in 2013 at the Textile Protection and Comfort Center (TPACC), studying human performance and optimizing personal protective equipment. After his years of teaching classes as an associate professor and serving as the co-director of TPACC, he became the director of graduate programs for the TECS department. His research contributions and excellent teaching capabilities during his time as the director of graduate programs earned him the opportunity to become department head of TECS at the Wilson College. If you want to know more about DenHartog’s new position and his impact on the Wolfpack community, click the link below to read more! http://ncst.at/g3qf50UjoSi

  • Our textile design student Matthew Riddle ('25) studied in Florence, Italy, at Lorenzo de’ Medici this past spring semester. In addition to taking textile-based classes such as Basic Printmaking, he further immersed himself in Italian culture by visiting museums for inspiration! At Wilson we encourage our students to study abroad to build global knowledge and learn about other cultures. We asked Matthew what his favorite part of the experience was and he said: “Probably etching in my printmaking class. It’s a really old technique and less common nowadays and some of the best ones came from Italy. So it's been really cool learning it here and being able to see the old ones in museums and galleries.”

  • High Point, North Carolina, has become a global hub for the interior design industry. Twice a year, the small city hosts High Point Market, welcoming 75,000+ visitors from around the world. #NCStateWilson students and alumni add a unique perspective Market with a textile-focused approach. Britt Warner ((B.S. FTD-TD ‘20) says, “I know things that other people don’t know in the industry. I have to consider how a fabric is going to wear over time probably four times a day, and I can determine that without having to look into the abrasion resistance or anything because I know the fiber, I know and I can look at the weave construction and easily see whether or not that fabric is likely to pick or snag.” Students traveled to High Point Market with the WithIt organization, giving them the opportunity to visit Market, connect with other students in the organization and learn from many industry leaders, inlcuding our alumni! I am conducting research for my Master's thesis and would love your participation! I am earning my Master of Science in Textiles from NC State Wilson College of Textiles and conducting quantitative research via a survey! This survey concerns Generation Z consumers' color preferences when purchasing upholstered furniture and should take approximately 10 minutes to complete! Eligibility for participation: - Born between 1997 and 2006 while also being 18 years old or older - Reside in the United States - Have no color vision deficiency (ex. color blindness) This is based on preferences and opinions, so no right or wrong answers exist! Don't hesitate to ask any questions; I would happily help! Link to survey: https://lnkd.in/eBhJkNHj
