CREW New York members visited two New Destiny Housing Corporation residences to decorate their community rooms for the holidays. The day was filled with festive fun as CREW NY members, staff, and residents enjoyed refreshments and cheerful conversation as they decorated. CREW NY members will return in January to help pack up the decorations and store them for decorating next year. CREW NY is proud to continue to support and partner with New Destiny Housing, the only organization in New York City dedicated to building affordable housing for domestic violence survivors and their children.
We are extremely proud to share that Thaiasia Johnson, MSW, Program Director at The Anderson & The Morris, completed the Supportive Housing Network of New York's Readying Emerging Leaders in Supportive Housing (#RELISH) Program! Created by the Racial Equity in Supportive Housing Workgroup in partnership with Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work, RELISH prepares Black emerging leaders in the nonprofit homeless and housing sector for upward mobility. The program offers bi-weekly seminars and mentorship, providing scholars with the management, leadership, and networking skills they need to succeed. The graduation ceremony was held on Friday, December 13th. Anne Williams-Isom, Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services gave rousing remarks as the keynote speaker.

New in Bronx Times: "New Destiny Housing, the state’s largest provider of supportive housing for those experiencing domestic violence, partnered earlier this year with EatWell, a Boston-based company that makes tailored meal kits for people with chronic illness and for those experiencing food insecurity." Through our partnership with EatWell, program participants receive a weekly supply of healthy, balanced ingredients along with recipes that take less than 30 minutes to prepare. The meal kits, which are delivered to the families weekly, include ingredients that are plant-forward and nutrient-dense, like vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. The kits also include recipe cards crafted by EatWell’s Culinary and Education Director, Adriana Katekawa, a 2-star Michelin chef who creates each recipe with resource-limited kitchens and time-strapped families in mind. Imagine a life where the concept of home and the hope for a stable future seems like a far-off dream. This was the reality for Rosanna, a single mother fleeing domestic violence, whose courage and determination led her to New Destiny Housing. Rosanna's journey with us began 4 years ago. "Living alone is hard with three kids, but this is a miracle, living here; a dream come true. My kids and I know and trust our neighbors, and I have a place to go when I’m sad, they’ll listen. My son doesn't usually open up much, but the social services staff help him to feel comfortable to express himself. This is my home, where my kids will grow up. I hope we can be here for a long time." Your support is vital to our mission. With your help, this #GivingTuesday, and every day, we can continue to transform lives and provide the sanctuary that families like Rosanna's desperately need.
