You use biomass energy if you burn wood in your fireplace or use a wood stove for heat. Biomass energy comes from plants and plant-based materials. It's the oldest source of energy and also one of the newest. From early hunters and gatherers to commercial biomass power facilities like Koda Energy, LLC, trees continue to keep us warm. #itcomesfromatree #biomassenergy #renewableenergy #sustainability

You might be a boomer if you remember Howdy the Good Outdoor Manners Raccoon. The Pennsylvania Forestry Association expected him to become as popular as Smokey Bear. At his peak, he had a magazine, a movie, and a fan club (GOMA - Good Outdoors Manners Association), but he faded from view. It may be the fault of Woodsy Owl, or it may have been his lack of pants. You can read about it in the Forest History Society blog: https://lnkd.in/gGgD9754. Image credit: Forest History Society. #throwbackThursday #SmokeyBear #boomers #goodoutdoormanners

Book your tickets to Omaha now. The Forever Forest exhibit is back at the Omaha Children's Museum! Your kids can learn where wood comes from and how to use it. They can climb through the trees, construct their own kid-sized house, and play on a train. Don't hesitate. The exhibit will be moving on to another city in May. You don't typically think of GMOs, AI, biotech startups, and venture capitalists as forest heroes. However, when it comes to the American chestnut, they might be the real deal. These trees were a huge part of the ecosystem until they were decimated by blight. They served as a source of lumber and as food for people and wildlife. American Castanea hopes to change that with a chestnut tree that fights the blight. They see a future of restored biodiversity in our forests and commercial growth of the trees for their nuts. See the full story in the MIT Technology Review: https://lnkd.in/ggwUYAcg. If you're a teacher who would like their students to learn more about the value of trees, click here for a free Truth About Trees Kit today: https://bit.ly/RequestAKit! #teacherTuesday #itcomesfromatree #Americanchestnut #MIT

The Norway spruce that towers over Rockefeller Center will continue to make magic long after the holiday. It will go to Habitat for Humanity, and lumber from the tree will be used for flooring, furniture, and cabinetry. Since 2007, every Rockefeller Center tree has been donated to the charity. Wood from the trees can be found in homes from New York to Mississippi. At this rate, the tree may have more acts than a Broadway play. It's just another example of the sustainability of wood. #itcomesfromatree #realChristmastrees #HabitatforHumanity #sustainability

Does it count as a family activity if the entire family doesn't fit on the toboggan? This photo was taken in 1938 near White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire, but tobogganing is still popular today. You can even travel to Camden, Maine, for the U.S. National Toboggan Championships from January 31 to February 2. Click here for details: https://lnkd.in/gwj-2R4n. Betty Birch, like any celebrity, is instantly recognizable. However, because she's a tree, she's very well-rounded. Ironically, the tree with paper-like bark is a source of pulp for paper production. Birchwood is prized for its versatility. It makes beautiful furniture and flexible skateboards. You can help the next generation become #exTREEmelysmart by funding Truth About Trees Kits. Your (tax-deductible) donation will help children learn about the value of forests and trees! 🤓 Your sponsorship will ensure that your logo appears on either the kits' rulers, USB drives, or pencils.
