ODYSSEUS is an EU-funded HORIZON Innovation Action project the scope of which is to allow EU and non-EU citizens to seamlessly travel across borders without stopping while reducing the workload for Border Authorities through a highly secure and automated border check solution. The intelligent, highly-automated, portable and legally compliant digital technologies will strengthen border controls by fusing multiple identity verification and vehicle/luggage/cargo screening solutions, generating risk information for each vehicle/passenger to facilitate Border Authorities.

Thank you to our partners at UIC - International union of railways #UICrail#UICrail Security Department for sharing this update on the recent 5️⃣th Plenary Meeting of the ODYSSEUS project in Lisbon. 🇵🇹 Through extended conversations, partners finalised plans for the upcoming rail pilot at the Ungheni border crossing between Romania and Moldova. This pilot, scheduled for 16-18 December 2024, will be the first of its kind, testing enhanced border operations with ODYSSEUS project technology, including seamless border crossings and illegal entry detection using drone technology in partnership with ACCELIGENCE LTD. 📣 On 27-28 November 2024, Grigore Havarneanu and Kacper Kubrak, Senior Security Advisors, are representing the UIC Security Department at the 5th Plenary Meeting of the ODYSSEUS project project in Lisbon. They are currently discussing with the project team the final details for the implementation of the first phase of the pilot and finetuning the agenda. 🛡️ The rail pilot led by UIC Security Department is scheduled for 16-18 December 2024 at the Ungheni border crossing between Romania 🇷🇴 and Moldova 🇲🇩. 🛂 The Ungheni passenger train pilot will be the first of the project, followed by other tests which will take place in road and water border crossing points. 🚉 This activity will be conducted in two stages – first, measuring baseline operations, followed by testing enhanced operations using ODYSSEUS technology, including seamless border crossings, as well as illegal entry detection with drone technology in partnership with ACCELIGENCE LTD. 🤝 The pilot will include active participation from Romanian border authorities to evaluate the technology’s effectiveness in real-world rail conditions. ❔ Learn more about the project and the event here: https://lnkd.in/e5xQKGMB #ODYSSEUS #BorderSecurity #Rail #Innovation #CrossBorderOperations #TechForGood #UICrail #EUProjects

Rapiscan have submitted a provisional application for IP on a novel data acquisition technique that allows for enhanced transmission X-ray detection in the inspection of occupied vehicles. This technology development forms part of Rapiscan's contribution towards the ODYSSEUS project. This ground-breaking technology supports the agenda to justify the use of X-ray screening solutions for vehicles crossing EU borders, by demonstrating industry leading image quality at the lowest dose exposure levels of any NII security screening application. Protecting European borders from the illicit movement of weapons, drugs, contraband, and people, while promoting lawful entry and exit, and lawful trade, is essential to member state security, economic prosperity, and European sovereignty. The ODYSSEUS project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement N°101073910. 🚄 Exciting updates from the ODYSSEUS project! As a follow-up to the UIC Security Division’s 🛡️ participation in the STS-MigTec Annual Workshop 2024 “Data Matters in Migration and Border Control” at Utrecht University, we are happy to announce that the paper “Railway Security Checks at the Border: Between Intrusive Security Technologies and Fundamental Traveler Rights” presented during the event has now been successfully published in the European Commission’s 🇪🇺 Open Research Europe. Open Research Europe is a platform providing rapid and transparent publication of research outputs across all disciplines for researchers funded by the European Commission. The paper authored by Kacper Kubrak and Grigore Havarneanu, explores the delicate balance between security measures and freedom of movement at European railway borders, as well as the UIC Security Division's involvement in the EU-funded Horizon Europe project ODYSSEUS. UIC Security Division is coordinating a passenger train pilot within the project, aimed at evaluating advanced technologies for passenger identification at railway border crossings.
