At Preply Business, we work with customers from all around the world, so understanding and celebrating different cultures is at the heart of how we collaborate 🌍✨ At our recent B2B offsite, we didn’t just dive into quarterly business results and explore customer success stories. We also welcomed our new VP of Sales Yan Kessler to the team and laid the groundwork for the next chapter of growth in 2025 and beyond. But more than anything, we focused on what really powers us: team spirit and collaboration 🤝 This time, we took it up a notch with an unforgettable experience: The Haka - the powerful Māori ceremonial dance you’ve probably seen the New Zealand rugby team perform. It wasn’t just about the movements; it was about immersing ourselves in Māori language and culture, learning about the tradition, and connecting as a team in a whole new way.  Chanting and moving in unison brought a real sense of unity, purpose, and energy that we’ll carry forward into everything we do. What an incredible three days we had at the Preply Tutor Conference! 🎉 We love bringing our tutor community together to dive into learning, share fresh ideas, and connect. At Preply, we’re all about growth and the joy of continuous learning 📚. That’s why we’re glad to share highlights from one of our keynote sessions with the legendary John Hughes - an expert with 30+ years of teaching experience and author of over 80 educational titles. John’s talk, “Seven Simple Secrets for Writing Super Classroom Materials,” was packed with practical advice and creative strategies for tutors: ➡️ Common mistakes in educational materials Issues like unclear instructions and inconsistent verb forms are easy to overlook. John’s advice? Add headings, break down instructions, and always include examples to ensure clarity. ➡️ Using images to boost engagement Images add context and spark interest. Choose authentic, diverse visuals that reflect real-life situations. Some of John’s recommended sources: Unsplash, Pixabay, and OPENVERSE. ➡️ Generating fresh ideas Great material can come from anywhere! Stay alert to current events, and student feedback, and keep your “materials radar” active. Example? Have you heard of 'overtourism' and 'undertourism'? These are new terms that are often talked about nowadays and can inspire a great lesson plan. ➡️ Evaluating your materials John suggests using strategies like the “heads up, heads down” approach to balance interactive and solo activities, plus a “writing buddy” system for peer feedback.
