[Project X Mentor] NINA LÊ - JOURNEY OF SELF-DISCOVERY THROUGH CAREER TRANSITION Despite different starting points and experiences, mentors at Project X share a common goal - to help individuals build confidence and develop necessary skills for success. This is echoed by Nina Le, a mentor who transitioned from marketing to technology at the age of 24. Confronting pressure and comparison, she overcame and achieved notable accomplishments such as: Software Engineer @ LinkedIn Software Engineer @ Capital One Creator of YouTube and TikTok channel "Coding With Nina" Nina's journey was far from easy, yet she always aimed for learning and personal development, especially through her role as a mentor in the upcoming Fellowship program. The values and lessons Nina can bring to her mentees are evident in her insights shared with Project X, as follows: 1. Hello Nina, could you share your reasons and personal intentions for becoming a mentor at Project X? 👉 I decided to become a mentor at Project X to utilize my experience to support and inspire young individuals, especially women, in building confidence and developing essential skills for success. With the upcoming mentorship relationships, my goals are: Skill Support and Development, Experience Sharing and Guidance, Encouraging Diversity in Tech, Building Support Networks, Continuous Feedback, and Learning. 2. In the job application process, what do you usually draw motivation from? 👉 A major lesson I've learned is that understanding and leveraging one's strengths are crucial. When I transitioned careers, although my coding skills weren't as strong as my peers, I realized my strength lay in leadership skills. I utilized this to become the leader of the Developer Student Club, making my resume stand out. We shouldn't only compare ourselves to others and the important thing is to recognize and leverage those strengths within ourselves. 3. One of the biggest concerns for software engineering students is the technical interview process. How did you prepare for it and what advice do you have for students? 👉 I focused heavily on practicing algorithms through platforms like LeetCode, which helped me improve problem-solving skills and become familiar with common question types. Additionally, how you present and explain your thought process in English is crucial. Therefore, practicing mock interviews will help you get used to the pressure and clear communication under stress. I also want to emphasize that failing an interview doesn't mean you're not good enough. Each experience teaches you valuable lessons, making you better each time. Remember that this process takes time and patience. Keep practicing, learn from each experience, and you'll see significant progress. Project X believes that through her perseverance in exploring and experiencing her journey, Nina will undoubtedly help many young dreams in the technology field become a reality.
