Today, October 22nd, marks not only the first day of our fall sales meeting at Royal Robbins HQ, but also the start of Royal Robbins' groundbreaking first ascent of the North America Wall. 60 years ago today, Royal Robbins, Tom Frost, Chuck Pratt and Yvon Chouinard began their ascent of the North America Wall on El Capitan. "A large part of our individual selves did not want to attempt this face. But another part was lured on by the challenge of the greatest unclimbed rock wall in North America. Perhaps it would be a greater adventure for its ogreish appearance...In mid-afternoon of October 22, with sweat oozing from every pore, we carried supplies to the base of the wall. Tom and Yvon climbed the first pitch and left a rope on it. We then passed the night at the foot of the face." - Royal Robbins' first-hand account as published by The American Alpine Club. About us
Conceived on Half Dome. Born in Basecamp. Our story begins in the 1960s when Royal Robbins met Liz Burkner in Yosemite’s Camp 4. Royal had established himself as one of the world’s best climbers—his skill and curiosity pushed the sport and helped usher in the golden age of climbing. Liz, a young climber, had moved to Yosemite Valley looking for a life of adventure. In the years of adventure that followed, Royal put up countless first ascents, Liz became the first woman to climb Half Dome, they married, and together they founded Royal Robbins apparel. For over 55 years, Royal Robbins has been trusted and worn by those seeking a life of adventure. The clothes Royal Robbins makes today are still cotton, hemp, wool, and recycled fibers, and they’re still found in sprinter vans outside Joshua Tree, campsites in Bend, guest houses in Chiang Mai, and anywhere else you call Basecamp. Ready to join the adventure? Royal Robbins’ collection of men’s and women’s products can be found online at www.royalrobbins.com and in outdoor and specialty retail partners throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Royal Robbins, Mike Sherrick, and Jerry Gallwas first climbed the Regular Northwest Face of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park in June 1957. Their five-day ascent was the first Grade VI big wall climb in the United States. At the Yosemite Climbing Association's Yosemite Facelift this past week Mike and Jerry signed posters of a photo taken on their climb.

Today marks the 134th anniversary of Yosemite’s designation as a national park, a place that has sustained a rich ecosystem, diverse wildlife, and humans for time immemorial. For us, it's personal—Yosemite is where our founders, Liz and Royal, met and where they laid the foundation for the Royal Robbins brand that exists today. As we commemorate this iconic landscape today, we’re reminded not only of the history, but also of our present responsibility to protect this natural place and all outdoor spaces for generations that follow. How can you do your part? Visit our partners at YOSEMITE CLIMBING ASSOCIATION and Yosemite Conservancy to learn more about how you can help preserve and protect Yosemite today. #RoyalRobbins #YosemiteNationalPark

Have you heard of Camp 4? Not the climbers’ camp in Yosemite, where visionaries like our founder, Royal Robbins changed the face of climbing forever. This Camp 4 is located in Modesto, California – and it’s a world class restaurant. Owned and operated by Royal’s son, Damon, this was the original warehouse, office space and store for the brand. Our team had the opportunity to lunch with Liz Robbins there last week and the culinary fare did not disappoint. If you’re on your way to Yosemite’s Camp 4, consider a stop at Modesto’s Camp 4! Fun fact for the Fourth of July: Did you know Royal Robbins was one of the OG American outdoor adventure brands? It all started in the 1960s with Royal Robbins and his wife Liz in Yosemite’s Camp 4. Royal and Liz shared a vision for enduring, classic, outdoor clothing that could last for a lifetime of adventure. 55 years later, we celebrate their legacy in the American outdoor space by continuing to design versatile and durable clothing for those who live for adventure. Happy Birthday, Liz Robbins 🥳 Liz was the first woman to make a technical ascent of Half Dome, a clean climbing advocate, and one of the founders and visionaries behind the Royal Robbins brand. Today, we celebrate her skill, vision, and commitment to preserving the natural beauty of climbing environments. Her contributions continue to inspire climbers to approach the sport with a sense of responsibility, stewardship, and passion for adventure. #RoyalRobbins #LizRobbins #HistoryofClimbing #YosemiteValley

What a great review from The Manual of the Royal Robbins Merced Anorak, thanks for the great writeup, Sam Hill! "This Merced Anorak from Yosemite Valley-inspired outfitter Royal Robbins has quickly become my go-to outdoors jacket. This lightweight, nylon windbreaker keeps me comfortable in just about any weather out in the Pacific Northwest. It’s thick enough to be a decent lightweight cover-up in cool temperatures but still thin enough to not get too heated when the sun comes out. The wind resistance this half-zip provides is next-level compared to any other jacket I own — no matter how the wind comes off the waves, I know it’ll never chill me to the bone."
