On August 9th, we partnered with Gumzo Youth Group to train a new batch of paralegals from Bungoma, Kenya who are serving survivors of SGBV in their communities. Our goal: to equip them with the skills necessary to document cases of SGBV effectively. 📚 We examined what makes violence "gendered" and discussed the importance of a survivor-centered approach, and the nuances of documenting sensitive cases. 🎯 Objectives: • Examine gender-competent approaches to documentation. • Ensure documentation processes prioritize the survivor’s well-being and autonomy. • Highlight the critical role of accurate, comprehensive documentation in legal advocacy. 💡 Outcomes: The paralegals left the workshop with a deeper understanding of how to interview survivors; how to manage and document cases; and the importance of approaching each case with empathy and respect. 🤔 Reflections: For SAHR, we acknowledge the indispensable role that paralegals play. They are often the first line of support for survivors, and their ability to document accurately can make a significant difference in the outcomes of these cases.

How do you build a world where gender justice is a reality? This year, we are very thankful and excited to share with our community, supporters and fellows, the greatest achievements we have made in 2024: ✅ 5 Fellows have completed their Fellowships. ✅ 271 survivors engaged with or supported. ✅ 100+ paralegals, community leaders, police, human rights defenders and lawyers engaged with or trained. ✅ 14 women human rights defenders in Afghanistan were being supported with case documentation for safety funding. ✅ 6 advocacy reports submitted to the UN regarding sexual violence in more than 12 countries ✅ 11 cases analysed with comprehensive forensic psychological reports in Argentina. We also want to highlight the work done in Bungoma County, where we witnessed the transformative power of collective action. Through SAHR’s Gender Justice Accelerator Program, paralegals and community health volunteers (CHVs) have become champions of change, breaking down barriers and empowering their communities to access justice and equality. The impact is undeniable: families have been reunited, women have reclaimed their rights, and communities are standing stronger together. 💥But the work doesn’t stop here. We are deeply grateful and honored to have received over 500 applications from more than 15 countries for our next cohort of the Gender Justice Accelerator Program 2025. The quality and creativity of the proposals we’ve received are truly inspiring, and we are committed to giving each application the attention it deserves. 📣So, let’s create a world where justice knows no gender. With your support, we can empower more fellows, launch more projects, and extend the reach of this vital program. Donate today and join us in making this vision a reality. Together, we can continue to build communities that thrive on equity and justice. We wish you a Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year💚

🚩What happens when public spaces go digital and turn hostile for women leaders? Online violence against women in politics is not just “part of the job.” It’s a systemic barrier, silencing voices, limiting participation, and reinforcing harmful stereotypes. ✨To close the 16 days of Activism Campaign, SAHR, together with Apolitical Foundation and the The Accelerator for Gender Based Violence Prevention co-organized the event “Resilient Public Spaces: Pathways to Mitigate Online Violence Against Women in Politics”, where we explored actionable solutions to tackle this growing challenge. On an amazing panel discussion with the participation of Marie-Simone Kadurira, Vania Pigeonutt and Catalina Domínguez, we shared insights on: - The devastating impact of online abuse and how it affects women’s mental health, erodes confidence, and deters participation in politics. - Human rights frameworks like CEDAW that recognize online violence as a form of gender-based violence and discrimination. - Inspiring successful cases, such as Mexico’s “Ley Olimpia” and Bolivia’s legislative efforts, paving the way for accountability and safer online spaces. This conversation underscored the urgency of collective action. Civil society, governments, and digital platforms must unite to create inclusive, resilient public spaces where women can lead fearlessly. At SAHR, we’re committed to making this vision a reality, advocating for stronger policies and systemic reforms that empower women in politics. 💬 What steps do you think are critical for building safer digital spaces for women in decision-making spaces? Let’s exchange ideas and push this conversation forward!

#GivingTuesday is just around the corner, and this year I’m proud to use my voice and my platform to promote Strategic Advocacy for Human Rights (SAHR)—an organization I’ve had the privilege of supporting as a board member for many years. SAHR’s mission is bold: empowering gender justice advocates worldwide to drive meaningful legal and policy changes that hold perpetrators of #genderbasedviolence accountable. It’s a small but mighty team that works tirelessly to stretch every dollar to support our fellows in overcoming challenges many of us can’t even imagine. When you support SAHR, you’re not just donating; you’re standing with the advocates on the ground who are creating safer communities, fighting for #equality, and rewriting what’s possible for survivors of violence. Interested in joining me to support this incredible work? We have multiple ways you can get involved: 1. Please consider donating as part of your Giving Tuesday or holiday giving. As a small organisation, every single dollar counts. https://lnkd.in/eZEs_Trd 2. Please visit our website, sign up for our newsletter, and stay connected to become part of our community. https://lnkd.in/ezirM46d 3. SAHR is looking for two new #boardmembers, with experience in financial management or resource mobilization Previous board experience is not required—just passion, commitment, and a desire to contribute your skills to a grassroots organization making a difference. If that’s you (or someone you know), please reach out. This #GivingTuesday, let’s remember the #power we have to back those driving change. #GivingTuesday #SocialImpact #GenderJustice #GenderBasedViolence #SocialImpact
