“Tech facilitated gender based violence doesn’t happen because of technology, it happens because of the gender norms in society” - said Marie-Simone Kadurira in this panel last Tuesday. Through my work and research on advancing women's representation in politics, I’ve seen how gender-based violence against politicians is highly normalized and remains one of the most critical and urgent challenges to address. That’s why it’s always inspiring to engage with individuals and organizations contributing meaningful insights and solutions to this issue. At Apolitical Foundation, our solutions-focused approach—alongside the efforts of many others (The Accelerator for Gender Based Violence Prevention, Strategic Advocacy for Human Rights (SAHR) and other) —keeps me motivated to continue this work. Thank you, Vania Pigeonutt, Catalina Domínguez, Marie-Simone Kadurira and Cäcilia Riederer!
Project Manager for Social and Gender Norms @Apolitical Foundation | Experienced in advocacy, project management & stakeholder engagement.
"We need to make violence against politicians unacceptable behavior in our societies." Earlier this week, Marie-Simone Kadurira, Vania Pigeonutt and Catalina Domínguez discussed solutions to mitigate and prevent #violence against women in public and political office. Our conversation covered the #impact of violence on women in public leadership roles, the power of #storytelling, international and national #legal frameworks, and the importance of grassroots organizations and #movements as spaces for #solidarity and support. Later, GaMei Chin highlighted the role emerging tech like TrollWall AI could play in mitigating online violence. It was my distinct pleasure to moderate this important conversation and provide insights into the work we do on violence against #politicians at Apolitical Foundation. This includes: 💡Strengthening the ecosystem and building lasting partnerships 💡Building networks and spaces of convening for politicians 💡Creating awareness through events, publications, and campaigns 💡Offering training on safety & resilience in office (and many other topics) 💡Supporting and testing emerging tech solutions For me, it was important to highlight the role of harmful #socialnorms and the potential of norms change strategies for violence prevention. My colleague Dora Cavalcanti Ehrlich and I are investigating the intersection of norms, political leadership, gender, and political violence. Stay tuned for upcoming insights and tools in the new year! The event was co-hosted by Strategic Advocacy for Human Rights (SAHR), The Accelerator for Gender Based Violence Prevention and Apolitical Foundation .

How do we #Restore #Hope in #PoliticalLeadership? Over the past month, I’ve had the privilege of leading workshops and speaking on panels across #France, the #UK, the #US, and #Germany, engaging global audiences to explore how we can reimagine #politics in a time when #democracy faces profound challenges. The past few weeks have been particularly meaningful co-designing and facilitating thought-provoking workshops such as "Should We Replace Politicians with #AI?" (part of our #PoliticianforADay training) at the #ApoliticalDay organized with Apolitical in #London, and collaborating with my brilliant colleagues Rebekah Ison and Natalia Herbst to reflect on pluralism and provide practical tools and frameworks for understanding our individual roles in "How to Make Progress in Polarized Times?", a workshop delivered at the Obama Foundation #DemocracyForum in Chicago to end my year (before a much wished-for holiday back in #Peru). At the Apolitical Foundation, we’re building a global, non-partisan movement with 80+ organizations to address critical challenges: rebuilding trust between #citizens and #politicalleaders (#CircularPowerPolitics), fostering supportive and safe environments for #politicians to thrive, and upskilling #changemakers with the tools they need to drive meaningful, lasting impact within their #PoliticalLeadershipIncubators. Thank you to everyone working tirelessly to strengthen democracy. 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year of projects and partnerships—let’s keep building together!
