A burst of insight for your Monday, featuring Siegel Emerging Tech Advisor Eryk Salvaggio and Computer Says Maybe Host Alix Dunn. Give it a listen ⤵️
Our access to information in the online ecosystem has become so frictionless and fragmented that we have entered what this week’s pod guest Eryk Salvaggio refers to as ‘the age of noise’. In this episode Eryk discusses how generative AI systems and algorithmic feeds filter out the noise and present us with a greyish unimaginative ‘centre’, allowing important context to remain unobserved on the fringes. What does an individual need to know about their car to operate it safely? At a minimum, they need to understand what it means when a sensor light comes on, how to refuel responsibly, and how to shut the car off safely before doing so. Additionally, they must know the rules of the road to navigate safely. Unlike a car, there’s no license required to operate AI. Often, AI is imposed upon us without our knowledge. However, understanding what’s “under its hood” can help us navigate its known and unknown harms and minimize risks to ourselves and others. These are precisely the questions that Siegel Research Fellow and Emerging Technologies researcher at Aspen Digital Eleanor Tursman is exploring in their work. They recently sat down with Emerging Tech Advisor Eryk Salvaggio to discuss their approach, delving into the interdisciplinary, ecosystem-focused lens they bring to these issues. 🔗 Read the interview on our insights page https://lnkd.in/e7sDZvXk

It's #CSEdWeek! In the age of AI, we're reflecting on what it means to inspire, advocate for, and celebrate computer science education. Why does CS matter now more than ever? In an AI-driven world, computer science goes beyond coding—it’s about understanding, innovating, and shaping the tools that define our future. And let’s not forget—AI, at its core, is computer science. This #CSEdWeek, hear from our team as they share what computer science means in this transformative era.
