What an Incredible Journey It Has Been with the Skyline Acceleration Program 2024! 🌟 This year, we brought the second cohort of Skyline to New York, furthering our mission to support Swedish companies in advancing the decarbonization of NYC’s built environment. As New York transitions to a mandated sustainable real estate environment, primarily driven by reforms such as the Local Law 97, it presents a unique opportunity to highlight and promote Swedish companies with climate and energy innovations. The program launched at NYC Climate Week and continued through Real Estate Tech Week, where the cohort showcased solutions and connected with industry leaders. With the invaluable support of the program owner, the Swedish Energy Agency, and our fellow partner Build Edison and the Consulate General of Sweden in New York this program has equipped participating companies with the tools, networks, and insights to make a lasting impact in the U.S. A heartfelt thank you to our participating companies for their innovation, energy, and determination 3eflow AB, Ecoclime Group, Energy Save, KTC, Vyer.com, Modio Facility Assets AB and NODA Intelligent Systems. Welcome to the first episode of our new initiative, The Member Insight Series! The series gives you an insight on our members' journeys as they establish in the U.S. Our first interview features Morgan Cederblom of Swedish Bee Company USA. What is the Swedish Bee Company? Swedish Bee Company was founded in 2018 by Mats Olofsson in Sweden to offer premium honey under The Honey of Sweden brand. Produced ethically and on a small scale, our honey preserves its natural aromas and nutrients, earning gold medals at international competitions. In 2023, Mats and I launched Swedish Bee Company USA, combining Mats’ expertise in production and my experience in the U.S. food market. What is the main reason for expanding to the U.S.? The U.S. is the world’s largest consumer market and a natural next step. For Mats, entering the U.S. market was a dream, and with my experience and belief in the product, the timing was perfect. What is the biggest hurdle in entering the U.S. market? Setting up operations took time, from coordinating 3PL logistics to creating FDA-compliant labels. Success requires patience. Many companies fail due to unrealistic expectations, expanding too quickly, or micromanaging from overseas. Focusing on one region, trusting local managers, and committing to a long-term strategy are key to success. What cultural differences have surprised you in U.S. business? The U.S. market requires a more direct communication style than Sweden. You must clearly differentiate your product, showing how it’s better and unique. In the U.S., the competition is intense which demands focus, commitment, and a strong product identity. How has your company benefited from its Nordic heritage in the U.S. market? Our Nordic heritage is a key strength. The Honey of Sweden reflects Sweden’s natural beauty and sustainable practices, resonating with Americans who value authenticity and quality. Its rich, creamy texture and unique character make it stand out in the U.S. market. Can you tell us an interesting story behind the product? Honey has a rich history as a symbol of love and purity. St. Valentine, the patron saint of beekeepers, highlights honey’s connection to care and devotion. The tradition of the “honeymoon” comes from newlyweds consuming honey for sweetness and good fortune. Our honey continues this legacy, offering a taste of Sweden’s natural environment. Yesterday, we launched the Executive Insight Series, a highly anticipated new initiative that brings together industry leaders and experts to explore pressing issues facing businesses today. With just four days until the US presidential election, our inaugural discussion focused on The State of the Race: Unpacking the Election with Bipartisan Insights. Reihan Salam, President of The Manhattan Institute, Charles Myers, Chairman and Founder of Signum Global Advisors, and Kristen Edgreen Kaufman, Trustee at Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, shared thought-provoking perspectives on the election and how each candidate's policy agenda could shape global trade, markets, and the economy—both in the U.S. and beyond. We are grateful to our exceptional speakers not only for their eye-opening insights but also for embodying the bipartisan dialogue that is so urgently needed in today's polarized world. Daniel Berglund participated in a panel discussion organised by The Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce - New York, addressing the topic: "Is the World Flat, or Is America First? Why U.S. Investors Should Look Beyond Their Backyard." The discussion was part of InnovateNordics2024, an event that highlights leading Nordic innovators and offers a platform for Nordic companies to expand their presence in the U.S. market. “The U.S. remains a key market for Nordic companies, but sustainable success requires looking beyond the immediate opportunities and identifying where long-term value can be created. At Nordic Capital, we believe that strategic innovation and strong partnerships are critical to driving impactful growth across borders,” commented Daniel Berglund. We welcomed the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs for a trip to New York. We toured the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation and visited The Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce - New York with Business Sweden, met with the Swedish designer behind TARFORM - Mobility of Tomorrow, and discussed the potential impacts of the US election with Emelie Svensson and Emanuel Sidea.
