Last week, the Bureau of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information management (UN-GGIM) was held following the Fifth plenary meeting of the High-level Group of the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (HLG-#IGIF), both events hosted by GEOSA- General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information in 📍 Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 📆 2-3 February. The focus of the meetings was on enhancing geospatial information arrangements and accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). The Bureau and HL-IGIF also discussed the organization of the World Geospatial Information Congress to be held in the last quarter of 2026, the operationalization of the global geospatial centres of excellence, the priorities on the implementation of the UN-IGIF, the new agenda on climate, environment and resilience, and the future geospatial information ecosystem . The Secretariat also provided an overview of upcoming consultations, functional groups progress and the preparation for the Fifteenth session of UN-GGIM, to be held at the United Nations Headquarters in 📍🗽 New York, USA, on 6-8 August 2025. The Expanded Bureau and HLG-IGIF also attended and participated to the opening segment of the Tenth plenary meeting of the UN-GGIM Arab States on 4 February 2025.
