The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the majority of Utah’s Wasatch Front. WFRC provides a forum for public, private, and community stakeholders to plan for transportation, land use, and economic opportunity, embodied in the Wasatch Choice Vision and Utah’s Unified Transportation Plan. As one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States, how we grow today will shape the quality of life for generations to come. The Wasatch Choice Vision is a shared, long-term regional plan for growth and development. It includes a map and key strategies for enhancing quality of life as Utah grows. This doesn’t happen automatically; it takes intentional and sometimes challenging work to find common ground as we all seek to maintain and even enhance the quality of life in our region and state, now and for generations to come. We’re honored to do this work with you. The Utah Transit Authority has received a $62.8 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration to fund the new Midvalley Express (MVX) Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route! This 7-mile, 15-station, all-electric BRT line will deliver fast, frequent, and reliable public transportation to Salt Lake County. This transformative investment in our community, made possible by the Infrastructure and Jobs Act, will: 🚍Improve accessibility and promote economic development. 🚍Support thousands of working students and professionals. 🚍Prepare the region for the 2034 Olympic Games, connecting Frontrunner and the Maverik Center, a planned Olympic venue. After years of meticulous planning, demolition, and site preparation, we were pleased to break ground on of Porter Rockwell Boulevard and the first phase of critical infrastructure at The Point. The construction of Porter Rockwell Boulevard marks a significant milestone, serving as the site’s primary roadway. This essential connection links The Point to the broader region, greatly enhancing north-south mobility and providing seamless access to the site’s future amenities. It also sets the stage for vertical construction at the site. We extend our gratitude to the hundreds of leaders whose vision and dedication have been instrumental to this project over the past several years. Additionally, this effort has been shaped by valuable input from tens of thousands of Utahns over the last decade. The Brookings Institution — a nationally regarded research and public policy organization — recently published a report taking a closer look at state departments of transportation across the country. In the report, Utah received notable commendation for its approach to collaborative long-term transportation planning through Utah’s Unified Transportation Plan. The report says: “Though there are gaps between many MPOs and state DOTs when it comes to collaborative planning and investments, there are places that stand as models of a closer, healthier relationship between state and regional leaders. This is certainly the case in Utah…” (Box 3 / page 22). We’re excited to have the ‘Utah Way’ recognized nationally, and look forward to continuing our relationships with transportation partner organizations, local officials and planners, state officials, and other stakeholders across our region and state as we work and plan together for Utah's future. Not surprisingly, different neighborhoods have different distributions of youth, seniors, and everyone in between. Did you know Utah is the youngest state in the nation? Today our team convened a meeting with 40+ economic development directors from cities and counties around the state (including on Zoom). We introduced some new tools that will elevate Utah’s communities, and we believe the sky is the limit in Utah #LetsGo
WFRC is proud to announce that we’ve been awarded a $224,000 federal grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation Safe Streets for All (SS4A) program! This award will allow WFRC to conduct Roadway Safety Audits (RSA) for as many as seven corridors in coordination with the existing Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP). The RSAs will include identification of safety deficiencies, recommended improvements, and detailed cost estimates to be used in project concept reports to implement the improvements. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our staff on the CSAP, many of our partners also received funding as part of this initiative, further advancing safety across our region.
