Congratulations to Muhammad Saddiq Ahmad and Rural Health Mission Nigeria who have built a 9-bed hospital in #Taraba State, #Nigeria. World Connect is a proud co-investor with the community of Kabri-Chana, which has eliminated a 30 mile walk for pregnant women to deliver their babies. We believe anything is possible when the #powerinsidecommunities is activated with investment! #powerinsideNigera #health #maternalchildhealth #vaccines #SDG3

Chana Community Hospital: A Beacon of Hope and Healthcare Innovation in Rural Nigeria. In early 2023, Rural Health Mission Nigeria (RHEMN) embarked on an ambitious project: to build a hospital in the heart of Chana, a remote community with limited access to healthcare. This vision was fueled by World Connect, Inc. a New York-based nonprofit that recognized the community’s need for quality healthcare services. With financial support from World Connect and the dedication of local and international partners, the foundation for Chana’s hospital was laid. The journey was not without challenges. The team had to contend with logistical issues, including transporting materials over rough terrain. Despite these obstacles, the construction continued steadily, guided by RHEMN’s commitment to create a facility that could truly serve the people of Chana. In March 2024, the nine-bed hospital was finally completed. It included a dedicated laboratory, pharmacy, labor room, and male and female wards. The facility was fully equipped with 24/7 solar-powered electricity, ensuring reliable power for critical operations. A clean water supply and high-speed internet connection were also installed, enabling virtual consultations through telemedicine. This innovation allowed patients in Chana to access healthcare services and specialized consultations beyond the walls of their local clinic. By May 2024, the hospital was open for services, staffed by a team of dedicated professionals—midwives, nurses, community health workers, and laboratory technicians. Together, they provided comprehensive care to the community, from routine checkups to emergency support. On October 31, 2024, the Chana Community Hospital was officially commissioned, symbolizing a new era for healthcare in the community. With reliable power, skilled personnel, and telemedicine capabilities, Chana’s hospital now stands as a beacon of progress and a testament to the power of collaboration. https://lnkd.in/d-aMe6xw #RuralHealthcare #CommunityHealth #Telemedicine #WorldConnect #NigeriaHealthcare #RHEMN #SolarPoweredHospital #HealthcareAccess #MaternalHealth #SustainableDevelopment #PrimaryHealthcare #HealthEquity #InfrastructureDevelopment

Really great to see World Connect Board Member Robert Hecht of Pharos Global Health Advisors and Yale School of Public Health visiting the visionary Rita Idehai and Ecobarter and WREP by Ecobarter in #Abuja #Nigeria! Rita is a leader on #recycling in Nigeria and three time grantee of World Connect. Rita and her team are introducing recyclable vending machines to Nigeria. With World Connect funding, EcoBarter has mobilized #IDP #women who generate income from transforming plastic into fabric. A win win win: ♾️ Jobs and income for women ♾️ A workforce for EcoBarter ♾️ Increased recycling It is an honor to co-invest in creating a healthier planet with Rita and the team at EcoBarter! #powerinsidewomen #powerinsideNigeria #shiftthepower #environment #SDG13
Founder at Ecobarter | Working on Sustainable Waste Management, Social Inclusion, Climate Adaptation | President, Recyclers Association of Nigeria |
We hosted Dr. Robert Hecht a professor of public health at Yale and Board member of World Connect, Inc. at our WREP by Ecobarter workshop in Kuje Abuja. At WREP we work with clusters of local community women as production partners to convert typically hard to recycle plastic wastes into new fabrics for bags, shoes and other lifestyle accessories. World Connect, Inc. is one of the biggest supporters of our work, so it was such a pleasure to share the impact working with waste has had on our community of women. Since the first world connect support grant in 2019, we have trained over 200 more women and now have 50 active production partners across 3 clusters. Together, we process more than 100,000 single-use plastics monthly. Each of the women earning an average of N60,000 over 80 hours of work monthly. A few of the women also shared how working with WREP has ensured they are able to pay their rents, keep their children in school or even buy basic supplies like diapers. Our model at The Ecobarter Company is to build innovative systems including our newly developed reverse vending machines to drive a waste-free world while centering shared prosperity and we are proud of the progress so far. Thank you Pamela Nathenson for connecting us

Umande Muhammed is not on LinkedIn, but he is a social impact leader you should know. He founded Katengeza Cooperative in Katengeza, Malawi in 2008 in response to the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls in his community, to create income generating opportunities. Umande learned about World Connect through his YALI Network peers and applied and received $685 from World Connect in 2020 to improve the packaging of their locally processed moringa, neem, and mvunguti and increased their sales 400% within four months. With their increased revenue Katengeza planted an additional 6,538 moringa trees. They built up their business with a laptop, planted 40 backyard gardens, and purchased 30 bags of fertilizer to assist families in addressing hunger. The improvements they made to their packaging allowed them to receive certification from the Malawi Bureau of Standards, increasing their distribution capacity. With a second investment of $8,663 from World Connect in 2021, the group bought a milling machine and built a factory house and solar dryer, increasing production by 1000% and monthly sales by 385%. World Connect awarded the cooperative $10,000 in 2023 to purchase a motorcycle to increase their distribution and diversify their business by building beehives for honey production. Before World Connect and its local partner Mudzi Connect begin investing in Katengeza Cooperative, they were earning 50,000 Malawian Kwacha or $28 USD annually. They now earn 16,000,000 Malawian Kwacha or $9,208 USD annually, which is a 32,000% increase in revenue. Before, there were 100 moringa trees in the community, now, there are more than 11,000. In addition to all of this success, they have also seen a reduction in gender based violence in the community, improved food security, housing, financial literacy, and reduced HIV/AIDS stigma. World Connect activates power inside communities by co-investing with them in their priorities. By focusing our funding on local priorities and ideas, we ensure local ownership, which results in projects succeeding 94% of the time, and sustaining 80% of the time. In some cases, we see exponential growth like this and we're so proud of and impressed by the work of Katengeza Cooperative and Umande Muhammed. #powerinsideMalawi #shiftthepower #locallyleddevelopment #economicdevelopment

Success! Sometimes there's simply no better illustration of impact than a #beforeandafter visual. In Jali, #Rwanda, just outside Kigali, women have had to scale unsafe terrain for water. With an investment of $4,700 from World Connect and an investment of $650 from the community of Jali, an improved, safer water solution rose in three months. ✔️ clean water, improved health ✔️ safety for women ✔️ more time for school and work Congratulations to Jean-Claude SHEMA and the community of Jali for this accomplishment. And thank you to our country director in Rwanda Rhoda Kanyesigye for this striking testament to the power of our work. #powerinsidecommunities
