🎉 Three companies based in Western Africa have committed nearly USD 1 million to help end hunger & malnutrition. The Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge is pleased to announce three new commitments from companies in western Africa: Farm Monitor Africa, Greenovate and Save Our Agriculture. Last week, the Coordinator for the Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge Lysiane L. attended the The Graça Machel Trust Women Creating Wealth Programme event in Johannesburg. In addition to meeting Victoria Mwafulirwa from the Pledge company Homes Industries, Lysiane spoken on a panel about the role of companies to advance the zero-hunger, sustainable development agenda. 💡 According to a recently published a report by FAO and UNIDO, we can achieve zero hunger using an income-generating approach through value addition. We can end hunger by focusing on driving growth in productivity and income in the agrifood sector. How? 1️⃣ Increase efficiency at the farm level, including mechanisation, and irrigation  2️⃣ Build up the infrastructure, from transport to energy  3️⃣ Invest in the domestic processing, distribution and retail sectors for value addition at the country level  4️⃣ Boost fair and competitive markets, including strong regulatory frameworks and trading agreements  5️⃣ Unlock supply chain finance for the SMEs in the ‘missing middle’  6️⃣ Promote innovative blends of public and private finance for sustainable agrifood systems    And for companies, this means 👉 Sustainably increase productivity at the farm-level, whether through agroecological approaches and/or mechanisation;  👉 Engaging and making connections with and between the processing, distribution and retail stages, making those processes efficient to ensure value addition at the country level. This study was undertaken with Hesat2030 - of which the Zero Hunger Pledge is a key partner.

🌍 The African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD), as a partner of the Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge, recently held a stakeholder meeting in #Nigeria, bringing together key voices to address the country’s critical food challenges.   ❗ The meeting stressed the key role of the private sector in transforming food systems and ending hunger.
