Timely discussion at #G20Brasil2024 on the power of PPPs enabled by #HealthTech to improve population health, sustainably at scale!
Digital technology and AI are game changers that shape how we access, manage and experience health and care. We are grateful to the G20 Health Working Group and the World Economic Forum Digital Healthcare Transformation Initiative for advancing the global digital health agenda and having featured us together with colleagues from the World Health Organization, Medtronic LABS, Philips and HealthAI in a panel on public private partnerships (PPP) enabled by technology to improving population health. Johannes Boch from our team illustrated how such PPPs are at the core of what we do in our work to advance cardiovascular population health and health equity, with examples from the Novartis Foundation CARDIO4Cities population health approach, our AI4HealthyCities initiative using data and advanced analytics to decipher the drivers of heart health equity, and the HealthTech Hub Africa where local entrepreneurs are mentored and supported to further prepare their health tech solutions for scaling. Multi-sector and multidisciplinary partnerships enabled by data and technology are our best chance to successfully address the complex health challenges of today. We thank Antonio Spina and Alain Labrique for featuring this pressing topic so prominently this year!

Shameless promotion on the back of Dr. Derrick Khor’s useful set of resources. We do a lot of this at Nexer Digital. Would love to do more at an earlier stage with anyone designing digital health devices, diagnostics and apps. The value of capturing insights on personal context, access needs, digital confidence, affordability and practicality is overlooked. Much better to do research and design with the right people from the start, rather than test and audit at the end for compliance.
Qualitative research is criminally underutilised in digital health. Three of the key challenges for early stage #healthtech founders is to: 1. Understand the problem they are trying to solve better 2. Find ways to continually improve their product in meaningful ways. 3. Generate clinical #evidence for their product. Too often, #healthcare innovators associate evidence with clinical trials. And while that is not wrong, I propose that in the beginning - 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐯𝐞 3 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬. A well designed #qualitativeresearch is: 1. Cost efficient 2. Data rich 3. Potentially publishable as well. I created this carousel in hopes to improve the understanding of healthtech companies on the importance of qual research and how it can help solve some business critical issues for them. A big shoutout to Mike Pogose and Michael Bell for their contribution to this piece as well! If you are a healthtech #founder looking for help with qualitative research, I recommend: The Digital Health Validation Lab - David Lowe Dr Laura Dennison Prova Health - Dr Saira Ghafur. As always, I take no credit for the amazing work done by those whose material this carousel is based upon. 😊 Do check out the carousel for links to the articles referenced! 👇 Let us know what you think! Digital Health Intelligence Market Analysis: Shared Care Records - a time of transition and expansion In a new series of Digital Health Intelligence Market Analysis, HealthTech Founder and M&A Advisor Lloyd Price examines a range of high potential market segments in the UK. Shared Care Records - a time of transition and expansion This Market Analysis of Shared Care Records (SCRs) reveals a dynamic landscape within the NHS marked by both progress and persistent challenges. While many regions have effectively implemented SCRs, barriers such as interoperability and a focus on planned care hinder widespread adoption. Funding for the Connecting Care Records (ConCR) programme, vital for sustainability beyond 2025, remains uncertain, although avenues for support from agencies like Innovate UK exist. Highlighted examples of successful SCR implementations include the Yorkshire and Humber Care Record, Great North Care Record, and One London initiative. Leading suppliers like Graphnet, Oracle Health, Orion Health, and InterSystems offer sophisticated solutions, enhancing data sharing and patient care coordination.
