For someone who grew up in communism, where challenging gov*ernment is not just unallowed but punished - this sounds painfully familiar! I thought we have (had) democracy. Where is our constitutional right to the freedom of speech? How about not forcing medical doctors to do something (or not do something) they strongly believe is right for their patients? How about not letting political agenda dictate how a doctor should be doing his or her job? How about us being able to freely choose a doctor and treatment? Do the gov*ernment bureaucrats and lawyers know better what’s best for you than your medical doctor who treats patients directly? And sees what's working and what's not in real-time. You can bring a lawsuit against medical doctors for any frivolous issue (and they have to carry expensive insurance because of that) - but try suing the gov*ernment! They'll use your own taxpayers' money (that seems to be bottomless) to lawyer up - so this doctor is indirectly funding her own prosecutors as well as her defense. And when their demands prove wrong or cost lives, they just move on to the next subject. Hoping we'll all forget their previous decisions and demands. At worst, they'll disappear with a nice, cushy retirement fund that we also happen to finance. Ever seen anyone being held accountable? Science always progresses and challenges the status quo. It's constantly changing and that's how we get to better and better solutions and discoveries. So when we're dealing with something completely new that hasn't been here before, you would think all the opinions of experts and medical professionals would be welcomed at the table to find the best solution. Instead, we should listen to Bill Gates... (??) When you silence and intimidate opposition voices (and it's always just one direction from the official approved narrative, the disagreement), when the media sounds like an echo chamber instead of holding responsible leaders accountable (yeah you lost whatever credibility you have left which wasn't much) - the democracy we once enjoyed is merely a word. Mary Talley Bowden MD is not alone. More doctors took their principled stand, all over the world. With a very similar effect - the bureaucrats didn't like it. With the power they hold, how easy for them to silence you, strip you of professional license, tarnish your professional reputation... Some doctors and scientists were silenced to submission. Some continue to fight. What’s your opinion? Do you feel it’s OK to go after professionals for their expert opinion that may not align with the “mainstream”? Who is to decides what’s right and what’s wrong? If we lose the freedom of speech, who will speak on your behalf if they decide to go after you next?

I watched the 60 Minutes episodes with Lina Khan last night. I appreciate the investigations into prices and unfair competition. Still, it appears that there has been an overwhelming focus on private equity and venture capital industries over the past few years. Meanwhile, one of the most significant costs for the average American is the cost of their health insurance, the deductibles, and the co-insurance. While the FTC has investigated pharmacy benefits managers, why have they ignored the actual health insurance companies that are buying up competitors and reaching monopoly status? Look how the healthcare system was upended this year when Change Healthcare (Purchased by United Healthcare) was hacked. Doctors could not get paid, claims could not be processed, payroll was missed in many practices, and paying rent was at risk. One has to wonder how cases are chosen and who decides what companies to investigate. Here is an interesting statistic - https://lnkd.in/eckwFgFg https://lnkd.in/eDMKMhAP

Check out 503c filings on ProPublica. While we can’t name names, some companies in our industry are seeing 10% year-over-year growth, whereas our DSO customers growth remain flat and in some their EBITDA have fallen 30-40% in last 4 years.

This is the exact reason why I am dedicated to building a first party, bad faith, insurance practice as part of my law practice. Among the many issues that Americans face far too regularly: insurance companies deny claims with absolutely no basis to do so; the fact that vision and dental are somehow treated as separate from one’s health (this is an odd legal fantasy we should not put up with); and finally the fact that both federal and state mental health parity laws are never practically enforced. These and other practices are a result of the lack of regulation and accountability insurance companies are held to. In other words, they have no incentive to do what we pay them to do, since no one is forcing them to do it.
It isn’t just that we are on the verge of ceasing to be a democracy. The fundamental problem in the American culture is that integrity and honesty are no longer considered priorities, and our politics and the illness profit system are perhaps the greatest examples of what we have become.

Stunning huh? Can we return to an enlightened civil society? No. Not return. Can we better approach one? Only Democrats are willing to act. What's needed? 1) Biden re-elected 2) Democrats take House 3) Democrats keep the Senate with enough votes to alter the filibuster. THIS is the only road forward. Together WE Can. Yes, WE Can. Forward. Democratic Tidal Wave.
