Today’s #AfricanProverb, “You can’t hide smoke when the house is burning”, is from the county that was formerly part of Rwanda…you guessed it – Burundi. The metaphor of a burning house and its visible smoke signifies that when issues become too large or critical, no matter how hard one tries to cover them up, they will come to light. This is all too real in the world of #business. #Financial mismanagement, bad #governance, operational failures, unethical #business practices, and failure to adapt quickly to #market trends are just few of the “smokey” practices you cannot hide or cover up for too long. These shortcomings will eventually be exposed and in most cases, the fallout will be either irreversible or cost twice as much to gain back your #clients, #customers, and the public’s trust. It is, therefore, important that as a business leader, you keep a clean house, upholding proactive problem-solving, transparency, and #ethical business practices. The UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce is the leading private sector organisation proffering #trade and commerce support for UK/Ghana businesses. We would love to know how we can support you grow your business. Write to us at info@ukgcc.com.gh or tap https://lnkd.in/d-FSx3Nk and join us today! #UKGCC #AfricanProverb #Businessgrowth #JoinUKGCC

Past public service reforms in Nigeria have often fallen short due to a focus on structure and process, neglecting the underlying "hard environment" factors. To chart a way forward, it is crucial to address these challenges by fostering collaboration, learning from successful reforms in other nations, and creating a public service culture that prioritises accountability and unity. Together, we can pave the way for effective and sustainable reforms that truly transform the public sector. Catch the replay of our just concluded National Workshop where these and many more were discussed: https://lnkd.in/dXWgyjWF #aigimoukhuedefoundation #publicsectorreformsnationalworkshop #closingthegapbetweenafricaandtheworld

📢 🌍 Don't miss this new commentary by Vera Songwe and Ishac Diwan in Project Syndicate exploring the challenges faced by developing economies, with a focus on Kenya's efforts to restore its fiscal health. 💡 "Kenya is just the tip of the iceberg; illiquidity affects many other lower- and lower-middle-income countries as well. So it is important to draw what lessons we can from Kenya’s experience." 💡 "While G7 leaders acknowledged at their latest summit the need for active coordination in resolving debt issues, and G20 leaders are likely to follow suit at their summit in Rio de Janeiro this November, the task now is to translate good intentions into effective action." Read here 👇 #EconomicChallenges #Kenya #Debt #GlobalEconomy #Finance #Illiquidity
Kenya's strategy for restoring its fiscal health is appropriate for a developing economy that is illiquid but not insolvent, point out Vera Songwe and Ishac Diwan. But its execution has suffered from three key weaknesses.

🇿🇼 The Importance of Good Governance in Zimbabwe Zimbabwe is at a crossroads, brimming with potential 🌟. But to unlock this promise, we must focus on one critical pillar: good governance. Good governance is more than policies—it’s about transparency, accountability, and inclusivity. It ensures resources are managed wisely, the rule of law is upheld ⚖️, and opportunities are created for all citizens 🙌. We’ve experienced the challenges of poor governance—economic instability 📉, social unrest 🛑, and weakened institutions. It’s time to turn the page and build systems that: ✅ Prioritize accountability in leadership. ✅ Promote transparency in managing public resources. ✅ Empower citizens to participate in shaping policies. Good governance will foster trust 🤝, attract investment 💼, and create an environment where innovation can thrive 💡. Together, we can chart a new course for Zimbabwe’s future—a future built on integrity, equity, and progress. Let’s commit to being part of the change we wish to see 🇿🇼. #GoodGovernance #Zimbabwe #Leadership #Accountability #Transparency #Progress

With a democracy score of 4.23 out of 10 and a global rank of 104th, Nigeria is at a crucial moment. These numbers reflect the gaps in our democracy—the voices still unheard, the accountability still lacking, and the work still needed. But democracy isn’t built by governments alone. It thrives when citizens—ordinary people like us—stay informed, vote, and demand better. It grows stronger when we hold leaders accountable, ask important questions, and engage in our communities. Together, these small actions create a stronger, more representative Nigeria. Let’s use this score as a call to action, building a Nigeria where democracy truly reflects the will and welfare of its people. Our democracy’s strength lies not just in numbers but in the commitment of its citizens. _ #AYGF #DemocraticGovernance #AfricaYouthGrowthFoundation #SDG #SDG16 #SustainableDevelopmentGoals
