The recent deep dive into the crisis in adult social care, as highlighted by the Local Government Association (LGA) and ITV News, reveals a troubling reality: Nearly a third of councils struggle to meet their basic legal duties to elderly and vulnerable residents. This stark data underscores the critical need for immediate action. At Advanced Adult Care Assessments (AACA), we recognise local authorities' immense pressures and the devastating impact on individuals like David Gower, whose quality of life has significantly declined due to reduced support. The decline in social care services diminishes the dignity and well-being of our most vulnerable and places additional strain on our already overburdened health services. We echo Cllr David Fothergill's call for urgent attention to adult social care. Policymakers must prioritise this issue and work collaboratively to find sustainable solutions. As Mr. Gower poignantly stated, "We're not dealing with a commodity; we're dealing with life—and life is not cheap." #SocialCare #AdultSocialCare #EfficiencyInCare #PersonCentredSupport

A decade on from the Care Act, urgent action is needed! 🚨 A survey from the Local Government Association has found that urgent action is needed to ensure the continuation of adult social care. ‼ With the Care Act working to improve the way that people can access the care and support that they need, only two thirds of councils are confident of their ability to meet all their legal duties by next year. Due to this lack of confidence in adult social care, the LGA has called for the current government to invest immediately in the service, whilst also bringing political parties together to end the politicisation of social care. 💸 Read more 👇 👇 https://lnkd.in/et8QgBSV Local Government Association Darren Rodwell #LGA #SocialCare #CareAct

This article from Community Care about the legacy of Conservative austerity policies really sets out the damage that has been done to Adult Social Care. The Care Act (2014) has some excellent provisions and the vision of Adult Social Care it sets out is admirable. But its positive vision hit up against the reality of the devastating cuts the Conservatives imposed on Local Authorities. One study noted in the article shows that spending on carers was reduced following the implementation, contradicting the very purpose of the Act. A number of Local Authorities are now close to bankruptcy as a consequence of the severity of this funding crisis. https://lnkd.in/ebKutuMa
