A decade on from the Care Act, urgent action is needed! 🚨 A survey from the Local Government Association has found that urgent action is needed to ensure the continuation of adult social care. ‼ With the Care Act working to improve the way that people can access the care and support that they need, only two thirds of councils are confident of their ability to meet all their legal duties by next year. Due to this lack of confidence in adult social care, the LGA has called for the current government to invest immediately in the service, whilst also bringing political parties together to end the politicisation of social care. 💸 Read more 👇 👇 https://lnkd.in/et8QgBSV Local Government Association Darren Rodwell #LGA #SocialCare #CareAct

Interesting read and one I agree with. One of the big point was this comment;- “A serious underinvestment in prevention and early intervention services”, contrary to section 2 of the Care Act, which requires councils to provide or arrange preventive services. Mentoring is one such service that if used as an early intervention service can make in my mine a long term sustainable difference in vunerable adults.

Our collective experience with Brandon Trust, Dimensions UK, Choice Support, MacIntyre, and United Response shows that vibrant and engaging social care is achievable. We want this to be a reality for everyone in the UK. Here's what we're proposing to the future Government: 1. Introduces a minimum benchmark for social care pay at NHS Band 3 2. Introduces a pay progression framework for social care 3. Introduces national standards for outcomes-based commissioning 4. Ensures statutory inclusion of voluntary and community organisations in Integrated Care Boards 5. Implements the Hewitt Review’s recommendation for consolidated health and social care budgets 6. Includes supported housing in local planning targets 7. Introduces a ‘Kickstart’ equivalent for employing young people with a learning disability and/or autism This is a clear call to all political parties to ensure effective use of funding, so everyone drawing on support benefits from these positive changes. The recent deep dive into the crisis in adult social care, as highlighted by the Local Government Association (LGA) and ITV News, reveals a troubling reality: Nearly a third of councils struggle to meet their basic legal duties to elderly and vulnerable residents. This stark data underscores the critical need for immediate action. At Advanced Adult Care Assessments (AACA), we recognise local authorities' immense pressures and the devastating impact on individuals like David Gower, whose quality of life has significantly declined due to reduced support. The decline in social care services diminishes the dignity and well-being of our most vulnerable and places additional strain on our already overburdened health services. We echo Cllr David Fothergill's call for urgent attention to adult social care. Policymakers must prioritise this issue and work collaboratively to find sustainable solutions. As Mr. Gower poignantly stated, "We're not dealing with a commodity; we're dealing with life—and life is not cheap." #SocialCare #AdultSocialCare #EfficiencyInCare #PersonCentredSupport
