💡 Let’s talk about solutions! During the last cross visit in Poland, partners, experts and farmers were able to see the solutions already implemented on the farms visited. 🍃 Bronislaw Kazberuk's family farm is located in Podozierany, Grodek, and it is characterized by the diversity of activities, ensuring self-sufficiency and profitability. Farm activities are: 80% cereal (human and animal consumption), 5% cold-blooded Polish horses for meat production, 5% Limousines for beef production, 5% agroforestry exploitation, and 5% machinery services to others. The main cereal produced is buckwheat which flowers are used by neighbor’s bees to make honey and spread the seeds. Normally, a secondary crop such as mustard is used when buckwheat, the main cereal, gets harvested in order to avoid having bare earth as long as possible. ↗️ What are the benefits of diversification? ▪️ To generate income from different activities. ▪️ To avoid dependency on a single activity in case of crisis. ▪️ To be less dependent on external price fluctuations. ▪️ To increase biodiversity, soil quality and food quality. ▪️ To amortize earlier the machinery. ↘️ What are the disadvantages of this solution? ▪️ Family income relies mainly on the price of the cereal (80%) ▪️ Increased workload. ▪️ Requirement of more skills. ▪️ Important initial investment (land, machinery, etc.). Farmers, what level of diversification do you think you can achieve in your farm❓ How do you think this could be improved? 📷 © N.
