The 2024 Asia International Fruit and Vegetable Exhibition is about to open, and global trade is poised to take off More than 600 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions have registered to exhibit their products and services at the renowned Asia Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exhibition. The ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA Asia International Fruit and Vegetable Exhibition will be grandly held in Hong Kong from September 4-6, 2024, bringing together numerous innovative products and services from the global fresh fruit and vegetable industry, covering all aspects of the industry's value chain. It has been less than two months since the opening of the renowned fresh fruit and vegetable trade show in Asia, and there are few remaining exhibition booths. At the Asia International Fruit and Vegetable Exhibition, over 600 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions will showcase their latest products and services. A big thank you to New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, our Trade Commissioner Tara Druce, The New Zealand Ambassador to France, H.E. Caroline Bilkey, the SIAL Paris organizers, and our incredible New Zealand companies for making this year’s SIAL show such a valuable experience for learning, sharing, building business and networking opportunities. My key takeaways on exporting to France from this week: - SIAL Paris is an outstanding event, featuring over 800 new exhibitors this year with new halls added, bringing the total to 7,500 exhibitors (90% of them international). It’s one of the largest food fairs globally - definitely not one to miss! - The New Zealand/Europe Free Trade Agreement, which came into effect a few months ago, offers significant advantages to our NZ companies (with most duties removed). However, some non-tariff barriers still need addressing. - New Zealand's strengths in the French and European markets lie in New Zealand consistent supply and the strong reputation of the New Zealand brand. - Post-Brexit, maintaining stock in Europe is crucial. FOB is no longer viable for certain categories. - Having local representation on the ground is essential, especially with a consumer base of around 70 million in France - hiring local talent to sell your products is highly recommended. - Success in the French market requires focus, patience, and building strong relationships. - While France can be a highly centralized market, there’s also a growing trend toward decentralization and regional focus. The first edition of Fruit Attraction São Paulo ended successfully, bringing together 12 thousand visitors from more than 45 countries and 8 Brazilian states. With the participation of international exhibitors from 15 countries, the fair stood out as a reference in the fruit and vegetable market in the southern hemisphere, as a result of the partnership between IFEMA Madrid and Fiera Milano Brasil. The assembled structure received praise, indicating a potential for future growth, with the next edition already promising to be larger, occupying two pavilions of the São Paulo Expo. Highlights include the Cooking Show and Fruit Forum, which offered more than 20 hours of content and interactivity. The fair's performance reflects Brazil's growth in the world fruit market, with record exports in 2023. The partnership with Apex Brasil boosted the International Buyers Program, resulting in more than a thousand business meetings, which should move 1 billion reais in the next 12 months. The event was also praised by Sebrae, which highlighted its importance to facilitate new business in the production chain. We at VSV are attending the Qingdao International Seafood Expo at the Hongdao International Convention and Expo Center, which opened today in China. "Our goal is to strengthen existing partnerships in Asia, meet with key clients attending the expo, and introduce our premium seafood products to interested buyers," shares Björn Matthíasson, COO of VSV Seafood Iceland, who is currently at the event. Interest in Icelandic seafood remains high, and China stands out as one of the fastest-growing markets, with consumption now reaching over 34 kg per capita.
