OCEANS ALIVE CONSERVATION TRUST OUR OCEANS • OUR FUTURE Let's love, respect, appreciate and protect our oceans, nature, wildlife, and our amazing planet. WORLD FISH MIGRATION DAY 2024 World Fish Migration Day is celebrated annually on October 24 to raise awareness about the importance of fish migrations and the global challenges which these species face. It highlights the ecological, cultural, and economic significance of all migratory fish species, such as salmon and eels and many others. Observed on specific dates every few years, in May and October, the day promotes conservation efforts, sustainable fisheries, responsible human behaviour and the need for habitat protection. Activities often include community awareness events, educational workshops, and discussions about the severe impacts of migratory barriers, such as dams, reservoirs, and pollution on fish populations. The #CMSCOP14 convention on the conservation of migratory species is set to discuss urgent issues related to wildlife conservation. The convention will address various topics, including the impacts of climate change and pollution on migratory species, the significance of habitat conservation and restoration, and threats to species such as overexploitation, habitat loss, and fragmentation. The Conference of the Parties (COP) is an assembly where policies and strategies are decided upon for the conservation of wildlife at national and international levels. At CMS COPs, policies are formulated and actions are agreed upon for governments to take to ensure the survival of species. CMS is an International Treaty with 133 Parties. The CMS COP14 recognizes the #ecologicalimportance of migratory species and acknowledges that their #conservation demands international cooperation beyond national boundaries. COP14 will take place from Monday, February 12 to Saturday, February 17, 2024, and aims to achieve several crucial goals. These include expanding the list of protected species, strengthening collaboration between range states, enhancing conservation measures for critical habitats, fostering #sustainabledevelopment practices that consider the needs of #migratoryspecies, and developing strategies to mitigate the impacts of climate change on their populations. By addressing these objectives, COP14 endeavors to safeguard the invaluable #biodiversity represented by migratory species for generations to come. #CMSCOP14 #NatureKnowsNoBorders #NatureBasedSolutions #EcosystemServices

World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is an annual event that highlights the need for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats. It is celebrated twice a year, on the second Saturday in May and in October, aligning with the migration periods in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, respectively. Key aspects of World Migratory Bird Day include: 1. **Raising Awareness**: Educating the public about the ecological importance of migratory birds, their role in ecosystems, and the challenges they face, such as habitat loss, climate change, and illegal hunting. 2. **Global Cooperation**: Emphasizing the need for international collaboration to protect migratory birds along their flyways, which often span multiple countries and continents. 3. **Community Engagement**: Encouraging local communities to participate in bird-watching activities, educational programs, and conservation projects. 4. **Thematic Focus**: Each year, WMBD adopts a specific theme to focus on particular aspects of migratory bird conservation. Recent themes have included issues such as light pollution, the illegal wildlife trade, and habitat conservation. World Migratory Bird Day is organized by the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) and the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA), with support from various environmental organizations and partners worldwide. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking #snscphs

CORAL REEF STEWARDSHIP FUND: National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Since 2000, NFWF has responded to the alarming decline in both the quantity and productivity of the world’s coral reef ecosystems through multiple coral conservation initiatives that aim to improve management, increase public awareness, and reduce threats to coral reefs both domestically and internationally. NFWF works with local, state, federal and regional partners to explore new techniques for addressing persistent, practical challenges faced by coral reef managers – such as non-point source pollution, over harvest of functional reef species, vessel damage and environmental stressors. Forests are vital to our planet, serving as biodiversity hotspots, climate regulators, and crucial components of the water cycle. They provide habitat for countless species, absorb carbon dioxide, and offer resources and livelihoods to millions of people. However, deforestation, driven by human activities like logging, agriculture, and urbanization, is rapidly degrading these ecosystems. To preserve our forests, we must implement sustainable practices, support reforestation efforts, protect biodiversity, and empower indigenous communities who have long safeguarded these environments. The preservation of our forests is not just an environmental responsibility but essential for our survival and the well-being of future generations.
