WORLD FISH MIGRATION DAY 2024 World Fish Migration Day is celebrated annually on October 24 to raise awareness about the importance of fish migrations and the global challenges which these species face. It highlights the ecological, cultural, and economic significance of all migratory fish species, such as salmon and eels and many others. Observed on specific dates every few years, in May and October, the day promotes conservation efforts, sustainable fisheries, responsible human behaviour and the need for habitat protection. Activities often include community awareness events, educational workshops, and discussions about the severe impacts of migratory barriers, such as dams, reservoirs, and pollution on fish populations. The #CMSCOP14 convention on the conservation of migratory species is set to discuss urgent issues related to wildlife conservation. The convention will address various topics, including the impacts of climate change and pollution on migratory species, the significance of habitat conservation and restoration, and threats to species such as overexploitation, habitat loss, and fragmentation. The Conference of the Parties (COP) is an assembly where policies and strategies are decided upon for the conservation of wildlife at national and international levels. At CMS COPs, policies are formulated and actions are agreed upon for governments to take to ensure the survival of species. CMS is an International Treaty with 133 Parties. The CMS COP14 recognizes the #ecologicalimportance of migratory species and acknowledges that their #conservation demands international cooperation beyond national boundaries. COP14 will take place from Monday, February 12 to Saturday, February 17, 2024, and aims to achieve several crucial goals. These include expanding the list of protected species, strengthening collaboration between range states, enhancing conservation measures for critical habitats, fostering #sustainabledevelopment practices that consider the needs of #migratoryspecies, and developing strategies to mitigate the impacts of climate change on their populations.  CORAL REEF STEWARDSHIP FUND: National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Since 2000, NFWF has responded to the alarming decline in both the quantity and productivity of the world’s coral reef ecosystems through multiple coral conservation initiatives that aim to improve management, increase public awareness, and reduce threats to coral reefs both domestically and internationally.
