I'm happy I joined the discussion panel about making money from sharing data/services in the FAME project. During the panel and the symposium, we saw that the real problem is spreading knowledge. We have the technology, but companies need to understand the value of their data. We need to help them see how their data can become profitable without losing ownership. I believe we should focus less on just the data and more on the services that can come from it. This will help us overcome the issues we talked about, like companies saying: "We have loads of data but don't know what to do with it." "We have too much data and not enough people to manage it." Instead, we should ask, "What valuable services can you offer with your data?" These services could include things like analysis, AI,LLM,ML, synthetic data, or using data for different purposes. It's important that the data and services meet high standards, follow European rules, and ensure fair treatment of the owners. To do this, we need common rules and "language" (semantic and syntactic) for using data and DataSpaces can help with this. This is, for me, our main challenge.
