Great conversation today at the NY Energy Summit with Stephane Desdunes , Keith Silliman and Paul Curran discussing the future of solar and wind industry and how NYSERDA is proactively responding to the evolving market dynamics

One of the most impactful bits from this panel was when Luke Metzger said [paraphrasing] "that the future of clean energy in the world relies on Texas". We have the workforce talent, the available capital, a growing equipment manufacturing industry, complimentary sun and wind resources that are the envy of America, and space to build. The only thing preventing Texas from decarbonizing, and then exporting clean energy to the rest of North America, is us and the policies our leaders enact. I am looking forward to advocating for good renewable energy policy in the 2025 Texas legislative session.

MIT is co-leading an effort to enable the development of two new large-scale renewable energy projects in regions with carbon-intensive electrical grids: Big Elm Solar in Bell County, Texas, came online this year, and the Bowman Wind Project in Bowman County, North Dakota, is expected to be operational in 2026. Together, they will add a combined 408 megawatts (MW) of new renewable energy capacity to the power grid. The Queensland Government is surely leading the way on Australia's Renewable Energy Transition. A similar approach was taken in South Africa where the Government earmarked Renewable Energy Development Zones (REDZ) and Power Corridors (for transmission infrastructure) in low ecologically sensitive areas to streamline the Environmental Authorization process. If a developer identified a development parcel within these zones, they were exempted from the full EIA process, and would only undertake a Basic Assessment. It has so far been a successful approach to fast-track RE developments in SA where the energy crisis is stifling the entire economy. #renewables #sustainable development #policy
