Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not - Dr. Seuss 🌟
This powerful quote from Dr. Seuss resonates deeply with me. It underscores the vital importance of having the desire and commitment to make a difference. Each day, we face circumstances and opportunities where we can choose to create something meaningful. This is a reminder that our choices have the power to transform perspectives and instigate significant change.
Making a difference is not always easy. It often requires challenging long-held beliefs and stepping out of our comfort zones. Many of us tend to accept what is obvious and familiar, overlooking the potential for innovation and improvement. Yet, even a single individual can make a remarkable impact by seeing beyond the surface and taking action.
I'm incredibly proud to stand alongside Radmila Desic AM FAIB, NAWIC QLD - National Association of Women in Construction, and the entire National Association of Women in Construction (AU) cohort in our mission to drive positive change. Our goal is to enhance the recruitment, retention, and vocational development of women across all facets of the construction industry. Together, we are working to build a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in construction.
Let's continue to care a whole awful lot and strive to make things better. One step at a time, we can achieve meaningful change!
Check out this sneaky little photo of Rad and I from the NAWIC North Queensland Tour in Townsville! Moments like these remind me of the incredible potential we have when we come together to support and uplift each other!

The closure of Women into Construction CIC makes for a very interesting read, 16 years of hard work all coming to an end.
I’ve personally looked at the Women into Construction campaigns over the past years and seen similar battles for Mental Health in Construction.
Women into Construction & Mental Health in Construction are both incredibly important topics but it’s very easy for a company to pop up a few photos and comment online about the work they are doing as a company to support these campaigns…… but truthfully that support isn’t happening.
A fasade portrayed to online media may intitially work but the truth of it is that it does more damage than good, organisations who lead the campaigns suffer with fake support and false hope.
Take a look at how many companies on LinkedIn are supporting the Women into Construction movement and then ask yourself how is an organisation like that in todays modern world having to shut down?
I welcome any comments/feedback on this topic as it’s hugely important we don’t see more organisations shutting up shop and years of hard work go to waste.

I personally am looking forward to the fulfillment of the Million Women in Construction Pledge!
This pledge reflects a commitment to increase access to training, jobs, and leadership opportunities for women. Many companies are pledging to focus on or scale up equitable hiring and workforce development efforts that create broader pipelines and opportunities for women.
John Fish, Chair of The Real Estate Roundtable and Chairman and CEO of Suffolk, said this in responding to the pledge;
“The construction industry continues to face significant labor challenges due to the aging workforce and dwindling number of young people entering the construction field. There is a critical need to attract more talent and diversify our workforce to ensure we have the resources to build our cities and grow our economy.”
To be successful, the Million Women in Construction initiative will need construction contractors, trade unions, and training institutions to commit to recruit, train, hire, and retain thousands of new and non-traditional workers who will be the next generation of skilled laborers and leaders who are prepared to rebuild US infrastructure and supply chains and complement Federal government investments.

I am proud to share that Suffolk is an initial signatory to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Million Women in Construction Community Pledge to bring more women into the construction workforce. As a leader in the construction space, we remain committed to creating more opportunities for women to make meaningful careers in this industry. In turn, this will also help mitigate the industry-wide labor shortage we are facing which requires attracting more diversified talent to the field. Thank you to Secretary Gina Raimondo for shining a light on this very important issue. It is our honor to pledge our dedication to our efforts to #RebuildTheRatio of women in construction and we urge everyone in this industry alongside us to take part.

hub South West Scotland is proud to support Kier Construction and North Lanarkshire Council with the joint "Girls into Construction" programme — a vital initiative, inspiring young women to explore careers in construction.
The construction industry has long been seen as a male-dominated field, but change is happening. By promoting gender diversity, we open the door to fresh perspectives, innovative thinking, and a stronger, more inclusive workforce. Diverse teams drive better decision-making, creativity, and collaboration — essential elements for building the sustainable communities of the future.
Girls from Coatbridge High School and St Ambrose High School in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, took part in the pilot, which has proved to be a resounding success. The programme introduces young women to the wide array of roles available in construction, from design and engineering to project management and on-site operations. Through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and site visits, participants gain insight into the opportunities and career pathways within the sector.
The final stretch of this project will be held tomorrow at Kier’s offices, where the girls will present their findings to a panel. This marks a key milestone in the programme, providing participants with an opportunity to showcase their learning, build confidence, and gain valuable presentation experience.
At Hub South West, we believe in creating pathways to success for all. By supporting initiatives like this, we’re helping to build a more diverse talent pipeline that reflects the communities we serve. Diversification isn't just good for business — it’s essential for a future-ready industry.
A huge thanks to Kier, North Lanarkshire Council, and all those championing inclusion in construction. Together, we’re building a brighter, more inclusive future.

Hon. Jill Dunlop, MPP explains why it is imperative to the infrastructure of Ontario that women are better represented in the Skilled Trades. Construction workers are essential to building for today and the future of Canada. Young people need to be exposed to the many beneficial opportunities in the trades and construction industry.
While this is a Ontario study it is no less important here in BC!
