Congratulations Justin Whitworth on receiving the Special Reach Star of Service! Justin is studying teacher education at Palo Alto College. He has worked as a donation attendant for 3 years at the Second Chances thrift shop and Helotes Humane Society. His hobbies include reading history and politics, going on walks, and making new friends. Justin says his favorite thing about Special Reach is that, "It is an uplifting place to volunteer. The staff, families, fellow volunteers and participants are kind members of the community. The energy and communication they bring helps bring out our comradery. Everyone leaves happy after each event." He adds, "Special Reach has solidified my decision to be a special education teacher. I've seen participants who were reluctant to try new activities and believe in themselves. I feel great joy being a volunteer at Special Reach events. I have made many friends and acquaintances in the community. I have learned many things from the teachers." We celebrate Justin for his outstanding contributions and thank him for his selfless dedication to improving our community! #specialneedschildren #takeabreak #sanantonio #volunteer #volunteersmakeadifference #community #communitysupport #communityimpact #makeadifference #specialeducation #disability #disabilityawareness #disabled #inclusion #autism #specialneeds #accessibility #autismawareness #autismspectrum #neurodiversity #love #disabilityadvocate #cerebralpalsy #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #disabilityrights #disabilityinclusion #downsyndrome #motivation #inspiration #diversitymatters

The California Alliance of Child and Family Services represents over 165 nonprofit organizations dedicated to serving vulnerable children, youth, and families. We are deeply concerned about the CDSS Rate Reform proposal outlined in the May budget Trailer Bill. Without proper review and adjustments, this proposal could negatively impact foster youth and the organizations that support them. We urge our lawmakers to: -Require a comprehensive review of the proposal and gather feedback from stakeholders in January 2025. -Analyze and adjust funding within the Tiers to meet the true costs of Foster Family Agencies (FFAs) and Short Term Residential Therapeutic Programs (STRTPs). -Develop a process to optimize Medi-Cal funding for foster youth services. -Reduce administrative burdens on service providers. -Include an annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) on the administrative component of the rate. Our children and families deserve better. Let's work together to ensure their needs are met. #FosterCare #ProtectOurYouth

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲? The answer lies in the complexities and individual needs of the youth we serve. Our Youth Transition Service (YTS) is dedicated to assisting young people aged 12-21 who are at risk of involvement with the law, as well as those already involved with the justice system. These youth face a variety of challenges that make reintegration into the community particularly difficult. We tackle these challenges by creating customized reintegration plans for each youth, personalizing our approach to their unique challenges, goals, and interests. Whether it's guidance with schooling, support through trauma, or access to positive community involvement, we understand that each youth’s journey is different, and we're proud to support these youths in whatever ways they need. By addressing these diverse needs, we strive to help these young people successfully reintegrate into their communities, fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging positive development. What is a grassroots organization? A grassroots organization is a community-driven group formed to address local issues and meet the needs of residents through collective action and volunteerism. These organizations often start small, with passionate individuals who rally their neighbours and local resources to create positive change. Society of Organized Services is a true grassroots organization. Founded in the summer of 1968 by three women concerned about unmet needs of local school children, families and seniors in District 69, they asked a simple question: Could an effective organization be created to meet these needs? The answer was, with determination, yes. The call for community action was answered by a diverse array of District 69 residents. Educators, medical professionals, law enforcement officers, bankers, community advocates, grandmothers, librarians, and youth all stepped up. Volunteers from Nanoose to Bowser, and Errington to Lasqueti, came together to form what is now Society of Organized Services. Today, SOS continues to thrive, thanks to the dedication and collective effort of its volunteers and supporters. This grassroots organization remains a testament to what can be achieved when a community unites for the common good. 🌟 #Grassroots # SOS #Wearecommunity #Volunteer #LocalHeroes #NanooseBay #Parksville #Qualicum #Oceanside

In the heart of our communities, a spark of awareness can light the fire of change. When we come together with open hearts and minds, we can address critical issues faced by marginalized groups. At Voice of Slum, we believe in the power of awareness to transform lives, build opportunities, and ensure every child and family living in slums receives the dignity and hope they deserve. Awareness isn't just about knowing the problem; it's about taking action. The more we understand the struggles of those in need, the more effectively we can work together to provide support. Every shared story, every raised voice, and every small step brings us closer to lasting change. We need your voice in this movement for change. From ensuring basic education to advocating for equal rights, there's so much we can achieve together. Let’s unite as a global community and turn awareness into a force that ignites action, fostering hope and creating a brighter future for all. . . . #helpingothers #betterfuture #donatenow #positiveimpact #empowering #helpingpeople #voiceofslum . . . ✨New blog post: Helping Foster Families During the Holidays🎄 With Christmas approaching and the present theme of love, hope, and giving, it is important to keep in mind the struggling foster families that may need help during the holidays. Many may not have the ability to provide gifts for their loved ones, or have family to give gifts to at all. Others may be struggling emotionally or mentally with stress that comes with the holidays. In showing foster families love and hope through generosity and support, we can offer help to those in need. ❤️💚 Visit fostercoalition.org/blog to read more about how you can help foster families in need! #merrychristmas #fostercoalition #donate #volunteer #fostercare #fostercareawareness #happyholidays

No child is an island. Beyond shelter and sustenance, every child needs the steady hands of family and the extended embrace of community support to grow and thrive. Family is often a child’s first experience of love, guidance, and security. It's where values are taught, dreams are nurtured, and confidence takes root. A supportive family doesn’t have to be perfect, but its presence creates a foundation that helps children face life's challenges with resilience. Community plays an equally vital role. The saying "it takes a village to raise a child" reflects the truth that a child’s development is a collective responsibility. Whether it’s schools, places of worship, neighbors, or mentorship programs, communities provide a safety net and opportunities for learning and growth outside the home. Support can come in many forms: listening, mentoring, volunteering, or simply showing kindness. Every effort matters. Together, we can create environments where children feel seen, heard, and supported. Every child deserves the chance to flourish. Let’s be the family and community that every child needs. #geancocommunitycenter #childdevelopment
