"The central tenet of this project is that, through innovation, economic growth can be achieved while fighting climate change. But for the right type of innovation to take place, incentives must be aligned in both the private and the public sectors. With this in mind, the “Green innovation to fight climate change project” aims to understand the role of the State, civil society and the market in the energy transition towards clean technologies. It aims to specify how these different actors could, together, encourage companies to redirect production and innovation towards clean technologies."

Powerful insights from Nick Falkowski on the urgent need for tangible climate action! 🌍 As tech professionals, we have a unique opportunity to drive real impact through sustainable technology and ESG practices. Let's collaborate to transform our industry into a force for restoring our planet. How is your organization embracing #SustainableTech? #GreenIT #ESG #TechForGood
CEO & Co-Founder @ Meaningful Planet | Passionate about utilising technology to help people and our planet.
🌍 The latest UN climate report is stark: Global efforts to tackle climate change are "wildly off track," with emissions rising faster than at any time in human history. Even more concerning? 🌳 Forests are losing their ability to absorb carbon effectively - just when we need them most. This is why we started Meaningful Planet, because we collectively need to find more ways to take tangible action, not more half-hearted words and empty commitments. 💭 What do you think? • How can businesses move beyond targets to create real impact? • How can we make it easier for everyone to contribute meaningfully? • How might we transform existing models of economic output and productivity into powerful means for restoring our planet? 🌱 We are lucky to already be working with many great commercial and environmental impact partners to make an impact - but there's always more than can be done. I'd love to hear thoughts and connect with other experts and businesses we might be able to combine forces with to drive more impact? (I'll be at Web Summit in November in Lisbon if anyone would like to discuss in person over a coffee) #ClimateAction #Sustainability #BusinessForGood #MeaningfulPlanet #websummit #impactstartups (I've linked the UN report in the comments.)

On Wednesday 5 June, an expert dialogue at the International International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) focused on the effects that climate change has/will have on mountains. The dialogue brought together different angles, topics and data on mountains ecosystems, which can provide great insight to those interested in the topic. Speakers reflected, among other things, on: - the importance of mountain regions in the global water cycle and the increasing dependence of lowland populations on mountain water runoff; - impacts such as glacier loss, reduction of snow cover, and flood events; data and research gaps, such as on mountain medicinal plants and invasive alien species; - the use of citizen science, for example to map water springs; - Indigenous Peoples' intricate relationship with mountain ecosystems in terms of cultural and spiritual practice, as well as diets; and - the importance of transboundary collaboration to accelerate adaptation efforts. 🌊 "Oceans keep us alive - they are the thing that sustains us." 🪸 It was inspiring to listen to Joyeeta Das, CEO and Co-Founder of SamudraOceans at the Climate Connection event on Wednesday night. They say that, as humans, we respond and understand numbers best, and Joyeeta's were pretty compelling 🔢 ➡️ Oceans capture 90% of the excess heat caused by climate change ➡️ Oceans are the world's biggest carbon sinks, absorbing approximately 30% of carbon dioxide emissions caused by human activity ➡️ Oceans cover over 70% of the world's surface These figures certainly deserve our attention! 😲 Through SamudraOceans, Joyeeta Das and Alexander Facey are helping unlock the potential of the ocean, specifically the carbon capture capabilities of seaweed 💡 Put simply, SamudraOceans is 'mega scale seaweed carbon capture.' And it's another example of how, sometimes, nature already has the tech we need 💚 Thank you for continuing to organize and host such informative, motivational events Juliette Devillard! 💪🏻 Now let's talk more about the Roman Empire... a Climate Connection inside joke! 🤣 #climatetech #protectouroceans #startups #climatesolutions #carboncapture #emissionsreduction #networking #PR #climatecommunity

The US economy is growing rapidly mainly due to investments in green energy. It's important to understand that the green transition will create new opportunities for all industries. We just need to know how to seize them. The article I've linked here discusses the five moonshots for green growth of Finland. The identification of the moonshots reflects a change in the approach to combatting the climate crisis. Climate change mitigation has long been believed to increase industrial costs, or at least require significant investments. While investing in green tech is of course necessary, investments are now recognized as bringing significant earnings to Finland as well. At the moment, strengthening biodiversity, or at least halting its decline, and ocean acidification are vital issues currently igniting debate among businesses. How could we strengthen the diversity of species in a manner that would benefit business? Happy World Environment Day!

It's undeniable that some major setbacks have punctuated our collective efforts to combat #climatechange. Yet, not all setbacks are synonymous with defeat. Instead, used in the right way, they could present opportunities for reflection, adaptation, learning and resilience. Amidst the political quagmire that currently exists around the globe, companies are being seen as part of the solution in addressing the climate and ecological crisis. Companies, once viewed solely through the lens of profit, are now stepping up as champions of #sustainability. And in doing so, realizing cost saving and #growth opportunities beyond anything business as usual can deliver. In this blog post Scott Armstrong reveals how harnessing optimism and taking consistent and customer centric Cogent Action can pave the way to a better future. https://lnkd.in/e-c437u5 #NetZero #EngageTheCSuite #GenZ #CogentAction #ChangeNow
