Hi-Hog’s Parallel Axis Squeeze, with Self Catch Headgate, is designed to process your livestock as quickly and safely as possible. This is because Hi-Hog’s cattle squeeze chute is uniquely designed to catch the cow without an operator standing beside the squeeze chute. Once the Headgate is set (with the simple Limiting Chain), the operator is free to move and work the cow in the alley, rather than stand at the front, in the animal's flight zone. When the cow enters a Hi-Hog squeeze chute there is nobody standing in a position that will cause your animals to hesitate. Instead, the operator can be working the cow’s flight zone to efficiently move their cattle from a the alley into the squeeze chute. The Self-Catch Headgate can be swung fully into the chute, or fully out of the chute. So it does not matter if your animal is pushing or pulling on the headgate when you release it. Today we want to highlight one of the members of our board, Kris Musgrave. What part of the industry do you represent? I sit on the Colorado Beef Council’s (CBC) board, in the Processor/Marketer seat, and own Stagecoach Meat Company, LLC. However, my wife and I also have a small cow/calf operation and run a small livestock feeding facility. How did you get started in the industry? I grew up on a Corn and Wheat farm near Wiggins, CO. As part of our family operation, we also raised cattle until 2004, which started my passion for the beef industry. In 2011, my wife and I revamped the cattle production part of the operation, with a focus on direct-to-consumer beef sales. In 2020 we were presented with the opportunity to integrate processing into our operation with the procurement of Stagecoach Meat Company. This started our path into the processing industry. What is something you wish consumers knew about the production of beef in Colorado? As a producer and processor, I work hard to educate consumers on the commitment and pride of producers, as well as the care and passion that producers and processors have for our cattle. I want consumers to understand that beef is one of the most sustainable options for protein on the market. Beef cattle that are produced in Colorado are given the highest quality of life, and the same commitment to animal welfare carries all the way through the processing sector, preparing the beef for the end consumer. #beef #cobeef #beefitswhatsfordinner

Texas Tech University examined beef × dairy crossbred cattle, particularly those categorized as high-yielding (HY) and low-yielding (LY) crosses. High-yield crosses resulted in a greater yield of subprimal cuts compared to straightbred dairy cattle, leading to increased value in the supply chain. HY crosses exhibit superior subprimal-to-fat ratios and higher cutout values than beef cattle, highlighting their potential economic advantages. Increases in the subprimal-to-bone ratio, particularly in the round, contribute significantly to the enhanced cutout value of beef × dairy crossbreds. Dairies considering crossbreeding may benefit from retaining ownership of these crossbred calves and selecting for muscularity while maintaining lower overall fatness to avoid carcass yield discounts associated with dairy-bred cattle. Where does my meat come from? We are happy to answer that question! 😁 The country from which most of our meat is imported is New Zealand. This is home to many lambs, sheep and cattle. New Zealand's livestock is incredibly large. The slaughter season starts in October and ends again in September. As the herd gets smaller and smaller, the season also ends earlier and earlier. Lambs are slaughtered at the age of six months, which can extend to the maximum age of nine months. After the slaughter period, we focus on fresh production, so it is very important that we have the lamb on time for our customers. The big advantage of New Zealand meat is that the lambs and sheep cattle are not kept indoors or fed fat. They grow up outside and eat what they need, so New Zealand meat is pure nature and grass-fed. This is reflected in the meat, it is of outstanding quality.
