For many people, adopting a dog from a shelter is THE only adoption path they want to follow. But with six out of ten dogs adopted returned, shelter dogs have their own unique set of issues, that many potential "want to do the right thing" adopters don't fully grasp. In this 3-part series, I'll take you through the pre-planning you should be doing coupled with what types of dogs you'll find at the shelter; what to know and expect once you're at the shelter, and finally, how to prepare your home and set your expectations once your new best friend comes home.

To prevent horrifying human behavior towards animals, we need robust international laws to protect animals from abuse, cruelty, and neglect. These laws should be enforced globally, with consequences for countries that fail to comply. Governments that ignore animal protection laws should face an ultimatum: adopt and enforce these laws or face economic sanctions, including the withdrawal of international business and trade agreements. This will hold countries accountable for prioritizing animal welfare and preventing unnecessary suffering." I believe strong international laws are crucial to prevent animal abuse and cruelty.
