[ 𝗘𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗺𝘂𝘀+ 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻 – 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 ] This week, the European Students' Union (ESU) together with EUF - European University Foundation and the Erasmus Student Network hosted the first 𝗘𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗺𝘂𝘀+ 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻 of 2024 in Brussels. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝘀, hosted in informal settings with a small number of official speakers, 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 and play a crucial role in facilitating exchange among stakeholders. During this first salon of 2024, Thérèse Zhang, Deputy Director for Higher Education Policy at the European University Association, presented a variety of findings from EUA studies such as the 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 study on the topic: 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. One of the main concerns highlighted is that mobility targets are far behind benchmarks set out by the Bologna process and are only slowly returning to pre-Covid-19 numbers, with participants debating challenges and solutions on why and how mobility targets can be reached. Suggestions included 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮, 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗧 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 within alliances. KIC colleague Stefan Jahnke pointed out that projects and initiatives such as the Higher Education Interoperability assignment under the umbrella of the European #DigitalEducationHub are but one element of creating a European education landscape where quality mobility plays a central part.

🌍🎓 Exploring the Impact of International Student Mobility on Career Skills – A DAAD Study 🎓🌍 EDUFI and Finnish higher education institutions and students participated in DAAD German Academic Exchange Service's recent Erasmus+ TCA study, "Campus International 2022", that investigated the role of international student mobility (ISM) in preparing students for the labour market. Spanning ten European countries, including Finland, this research utilised a longitudinal approach to evaluate the development of crucial skills such as general self-efficacy and multicultural adaptability. The findings highlight how international student mobility (ISM) equips participants with diverse professional competencies, underscoring the value of global educational experiences and how these international experiences translate into essential workplace skills. The study not only tracks the self-reported gains from international experiences but also compares these with longitudinal data, providing a clearer picture of how ISM enhances labor market skills. The data collection was carried out in collaboration between ten Erasmus+ National Agencies and analogous data sets were collected in Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Luxemburg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Slovenia. Yet, due to the low response rate in all countries but Germany, longitudinal analyses on ISM effects could only be carried out with the German sample. 📢 The analysis of the German sample was introduced by the researcher Dr. Julia Zimmermann in conjunction of DAAD's event on Effects of International Student Mobility in Brussels today the 7th of May: https://lnkd.in/eM2ts79A 📔 Link to the full report: https://lnkd.in/dEKMTTJy #DAAD #ErasmusPlus #CampusInternational2022

🔎 ACA’s recently published report, “Driving Impact of Erasmus+ Outgoing Academic Staff Mobility: Current Landscape and Pathways for the Future”, shows that Erasmus+ staff mobility is mostly encouraged through broader institutional internationalisation strategies. The instances where staff mobility is promoted as part of professional development, or mandatory career progression, are significantly less common, pointing to a need for more institutional recognition and reward. ⭐ Institutions could benefit from adopting guidelines and systematic strategies to recognise these experiences, linked to professional development and career advancement, and consistently communicating the added value of staff mobility to all staff members. Further incentives can be provided through funding policy experimentation or pilot projects. 📍 Learn more by reading the full report: https://bit.ly/3O311pW This report was supported by the invaluable work of six ACA members: OeAD-GmbH – Agentur für Bildung und Internationalisierung, Agencija za mobilnost i programe Europske unije (AMPEU), Tempus Public Foundation, Czech National Agency for International Education and Research, Rannís - The Icelandic Centre for Research, and CMEPIUS Erasmus+ Slovenia. #highereducation #internationalisation #staffmobility #ErasmusPlus

Well this is exciting! Today GSA - Global Student Accommodation announced that they have extended their European footprint with entry into Italy through the acquisition of a development site in Milan. Milan is home to over 200,000 students, but there is a student housing provision rate of just 3%, with eight international students competing for every PBSA bed. As such, there is a significant opportunity for GSA to deploy its development expertise and support the cities’ universities, delivering exceptionally designed, sustainable living spaces that enhance students’ higher education journey. #studenthousing #studentaccommodation #pbsa #Italy #Milan

🇪🇺 On 8 March, European #highered stakeholders, including ACA, were consulted on the European Commission’s priorities for 2024: a blueprint for a European degree, a European Quality Assurance & Recognition System, and on attractive and sustainable careers in higher education. ACA - Academic Cooperation Association’s most recent work for #EACEA and #DGEAC on the impact of Erasmus Mundus, under the Erasmus Mundus Support Initiative (to be published in summer 2024) and KA1 staff mobility, feeds into the co-creation of this package and its implementation. 🌐 Regarding higher education careers, one pillar is expected to support the promotion, recognition and valorisation of mobility and deep transnational cooperation. ACA’s recently published report, “Driving Impact of Erasmus+ Outgoing Academic Staff Mobility: Current Landscape and Pathways for the Future”, shows that Erasmus+ staff mobility is mostly encouraged through broader institutional #internationalisation strategies.
